Triton/Norvin inspired homebuilt project

Heres some mock up pix of my latest project
Inspired by Tritons & Norvins  Ive decided to build a one off special using a few of the bits Ive lying around,so here goes....
Started with an old BMW boxer frame [at a glace it looks not unlike a Featherbed frame] added a Guzzi front end with Eldorado external springs & a Benelli double sided SLS drum hub
Out back is a Honda swingarm with some unsuspecting jappa drum brake & a set of snail cam adjusters
Rear fender, chainguard ,tank & seat are  all my fibreglass replicas of Norton Commando /Manx topped off with a Benelli tailite/no plate holder & a Vincent replica tailite
The shocks are Konis with my home made covers using  a pair of cut up old fire extinguishers,
Motor wise ,its a 725cc Kohler 90 degree V twin,pushrod,heron head industrial  with home made covers, 32mm Amal carbs on home made manifolds, tranny is 4 speed pre unit Triumph & the clutch is BSA

I like it. Way to make something from nothing. Please tell me though that your engine covers are not bondo.

Yep,the covers are indeed bondo patterns, took a bit of inventing too, that Ill be having cast in alloy @ the local foundry & then Ill polish some of them up
Ive had to make up from scratch, first  in wood then molded in fibreglass, the primary cover ,a pair of rocker covers ,a flywheel cover & what looks like a dynamo belt cover

Ok, cool then. I was hoping that you were going to say that. What do those engines put out power wise? And what is the redline? If it only revs to 3 grand I think that you may have trouble finding decent gearing. Keep us updated on the progress.

Power wise standard itll put out 27hp @ 3500 rpm,Ive removed the governor & added big carbs & what will be a 'free flowing' exhaust,the cams in getting reground  & Ill up the compression, port it etc
There is lots of tuning parts available for the lawn tractor racing guys
This may result in what I hope to be around  40-50 hp @ 6-7500rpm
Bear in mind, OCC did the Dixie Chopper with a similar motor & they claim about 90hp!!?
Also Ridley use essentially the same motor,a Briggs & Stratton in their automatic Choppers....
I reckon it will be way  way more satisfying to build up a fast motor & get reasonable power from something so humble

It sounds like you have your bases covered. I agree that it is much cooler to make art from shit. Anyone can write a check.....

Heres a couple more pix
I had a hell of a time locating a reasonably priced twin cable front brake lever,Guzzi V7 Sport ones are rocking horse shit & expensive ,Magura likewise so too for Suzuki Waterbus  so after a few enquires turns out one off, of all things, a Suzuki quad was both cheap & easy to find
It polished up nicely & even had a handy place to mount a Briggs & Stratton choke lever
Also in the pic are a set of Verlicci fully adjustable goose neck clip ons

Other cool bits collected over the years for this project include a Smiths speedo,Royal Enfield fuel filters & exhaust heat sinks ,Replica Brit taps, a Vincent tailite & a home made battery bracket with one of my figlass Lucas battery boxes

Heres the rims  Ive painted & pinstriped both are 19" & will run Dunlop TT100s
Also a pic of the alloy tank strap with stainless steel hooks each end, a simple mini project that should set things off nicely
Im getting reasonably good at polishing now, plenty of practice!!

Heres a couple of early developmental pix
As you can see, underneath the original lawnmower black plastic fan shroud/governor/inlet log manifold & exhaust canister lurks quite a nice looking motor
The bondo & silver/gold covers conceal the bacon slicer flywheel ,ignition pickup & coils
Ill get  these & the 2 rocker covers, which are originally black plastic & that Ive made bog/wood patterns for,  cast up in ally soon
Then I can spend yet more hours/days @ the polishing buff :)
BTW: the bike in the background of the motor pix is one of my other projects, the restoration of a '65 Matchless G15CS, a Norton 750 engined hybrid street scrambler made by AMC

Yeah, Im trying to do something a bit  different & original, something that would stand out in a crowd of UJM's [Universal Japanese Motorcycles]
Im just not into 'cookie cutter' motorbikes  & am trying to capture the flavour & esscence of the early 60's era
Besides I really enjoy making my own fibreglass & alloy parts & doing as much of the job myself,including paint ,as possable
