I call this one - The Sub Frame

71 CB450 - Bought off a friend as cheap as chips, she is rusty as hell though. Nothing like a good sandblast and a dip into acid wouldn't fix.

This is pretty much all I got with the sale, hence the cheap as chips remark.

Just don't you love polishing ;D my problem is that the more i do the more is see wrong and go back over it again and again :D :D just have to except that it'll never be perfect. Picked a great bike for a build and one that is trashed/thrashed is the best, there must be a dozen 450 builds going on and another dozen finished on the site, no pressure but what's the target date :D :D mine was 2 months ago ::). Keep the pics a coming!

Hey Rod,

That is so true with the polishing, once you pop you cant stop. The hardest thing I find with the CB450 is that no-one in Sydney wants to do any work on it (the mechanical side of it). Sydney City Motorcycles (Lancove) wouldn't even look it for a blue slip. I was lucky enough to have found a local mechanic in the area who blue slipped it for me, they only blue slip them not work on them, which suited me just fine :) I must admit I'm finding my way around this bike quite easily with the help of this site and others. If I was to put a date on this project I would have to say Nov, Dec..
She is a beated up old thing, it'll be like the ugly duckling story. I think we all know the end to that fairy tale ;D

what did you use to cover those rims... looks so awesome.

Thanks, I got them powder coated yesterday in Matt Black. The rims are in the shop getting trued as well as tyres fitted. I hope to hell they look after my babies ;)

Those wheels are looking outstanding. What size sport demons are you running and are the rims stock CB450? I have the sport demons on my Interceptor and really like them, but did not think they came in sizes to fit my CB450 cafe project.

If you don't make a living as a photographer you should consider it.
Rims came out nice!

Beautiful work! I'm guessing you've laced a set of wheels before?

Thanks Matt, this is the first time I've ever played around with a motorcycle and my first lace. I did pay someone to true them though :)

This is what happens when you don't put on the right rubber - you catch all sorts of diseases
I wouldn't even touch this dirty ho :D

They seem to be pretty sturdy and not much movement once Ive tightened them up. I got them from eBay, come to think of it, all my parts have been bought from eBay. I think I should get number plates reading [eBay] on my bike. The only thing that wasn't bought from eBay would be my Tank and Seat, thats coming from BCR.
