    "Floating" seat

I meant the actual seat pan that will be upholstered will be steel. I'm going to be making another carbon piece that the pan will sit in then all will bolt together. Sounds confusing but it works in my head. Everything is engineered and figured just need to get it done. Taking the summer off...

What did you build this week?

Refinished this old chair for my wife's office Found this what looked to be dining chair for $20. Chrome was flaking, frame was a bit rusty, padding needed help and the vinyl was brittle. Took off the old vinyl, scraped off the padding...nasty Sanded down and rattle canned the frame. Got...

What did you build this week?

HA! Didn't even think of that. The cooler is actually reachable from one of my low plastic adirondack chairs, it sits on some framing and the lid is just under the hatch. But I like your idea better, free entertainment! May have to take out the framing...

What did you build this week?

Wanted a whiskey fountain for the deck, but I couldn't quite make that happen. Came up with this instead... Screwed 2 pieces of teak together and drilled a hole down the middle, coated the inside with some epoxy so it would be water tight Drilled a hole in the front half for the spigot...

What did you build this week?

Wanted a place to hang out with my buddies when they come over, away from the drama of the women folk so I built a "man" deck Nothing huge, 12x10, just a chill place with some cool features I wanted to have a cooler available but I didn't want it just sitting on the deck so I came up with...

1981 XS650 Project Something or other (going cafe-ish)

Thanks 7, the inside of the triples have no powder on them, I taped them off. For some reason the metal is really dark so that's why it may appear to have been powdered. I used some thin reflective insulation and some foil tape on the oven. Got it from Lowe's, it's the kind sold in rolls for...

1981 XS650 Project Something or other (going cafe-ish)

I agree with you 100% mobius. I stared at the tank and tail for what seemed like an hour and I came to the determination that I need a new tail. It needs to follow the lines of the tank more, have more of an organic flow. That tail would look good with a more squarish tank like an RD 350, but...

1981 XS650 Project Something or other (going cafe-ish)

Started working on the tank, the one I'm using came off of a Yamaha YR2...I think. The way it fit on the frame I decided it would be easiest to cut the tunnel out and use the tunnel from the XS 650 tank. It's still going to be a bit of work but in the end I think this was the way to go. YR2...

1981 XS650 Project Something or other (going cafe-ish)

Still plugging away, working on my "floating" seat and doing some powder coating. Did a complete 360 with the color, went from off white wheels to black. Rough trim of the floating seat support, it sits about 1/4 inch off the frame. I'm doing a complete build thread in the Tanks and Seats...

    "Floating" seat

Added some mounting brackets to the frame, also act as gussets to help strengthen the rear subframe Popped the seat off the glass and let it cure for a couple of days. Looking at it, I guess its more of a seat support as the actual seat and seat pan will attach to it. Gave it a rough trim...
