    1980 CB250RS - Another Aussie newby

I wish! Work has me in Port Lincoln tonight. Put 120k's on the bike yesterday before it started making a loud tapping noise which I suspected was the valve clearance shifting or something so I nursed the bike home. Reset the clearances and started her again but the noise was the same. Drained...

She's registered! What a relief. Managed to get someone very helpful and sensible at the services sa who found records of the bike being registered 18 years ago! Took her for a quick blast around the block with a huge smile on my face :) Next few days will be a bit of a shake down I guess...

Thanks spotty, I'll get in contact with the old owner and see if he can write something up for me. Fingers crossed it's nice and simple. I've checked the register about half a dozen times with different combinations of the frame number and nothing is showing up so hopefully this will all be nice...

Thanks Brodie, Queensland is my home but I'm based in Adelaide at the moment. May end up sending the bike north and registering it up there if it comes to that. eglintonw, It was just a dodgey old yamaha fender that I picked up from MR cycles in St Agnes. $20. Plan to eventually have it powder...

Progress has been steady, but work has had me interstate a fair bit lately. Here's where it sits right now, tank painted (boy do I hate rattle cans now) and all electrics finished, LED all around and no sign of flickering even at idle so I'm thrilled with that. Took it for its first ride and...

He suggested using Bakelite (I think he called it?? Same material they use for plastic chopping boards) and a heat gun to form the plastic for the base. It's easier for him to staple.

Castle Trim in Edwardstown did a fantastic job for $150. He had a few tips for next time as well. Nice guy.

Solved the electrical issue - the wiring harness is a bit of a mess and there was a broken line halfway down that connects the regulator/rectifier to the ignition switch. Re-connected and we have a nice steady 14.7v. Braided brake lines arrived, so bled the brakes which turned out to be a non...

Thanks Gumper, no reference in my manual either. Pretty confident 44t must be stock.

Fingers crossed it clears alright! I am just after the number of teeth, my wheel originally came with a 38t sprocket but when I ordered a new set of sprockets and chain it came with a 44t rear sprocket which I suspect is stock but wanted to be sure. Only one way to learn! That's a great...

Looking good eglintonw! How's the wheel clearance with that new hoop on the back? I'm also based in SA and am doing up RS as well. I have a few spares if you're chasing anything give us a yell just incase I have what you are after. Just for my interest, what size is that rear sprocket? Chris B.

Hmmm, double checked the harness, looks like it was definitely earthed, although just through the one point, the same point as the coils. Is it possible this was not a sufficient earth for the low voltage system?
