yeah, i've adjusted at both the handle grip and at the motor/trans. it doesn't seem to give me that proper amount of slack at the trans on the throwout arm. i'm thinking ill try with a new cable first before tearing into the clutch.
really??!? but before all this, i just chalked it up as it being related to the bike having sat for so long. long enough to where the tires had dry rot and flat spots.
at any rate: i'm a car guy primarily, so there's still a lot for me to learn here yet.
dang, i was hoping that wasn't the case. the bike has around 6,800 miles on it. but when i was messing around with it, i noticed the vin on the engine/trans didn't match the one on the frame. so with that being said: your guess is as good as mine.
that was one of the reasons i went for the honda cb - was for ease of parts locating.
good eye on the lowering blocks though. the ride doesn't feel too stiff for me. then again, i have no real basis for comparison. my wife wants me to take the msf course more than anyone.

update: a few weeks ago, i pulled the trigger and picked up a 1975 cb750. here are a few pics of it...
i've been riding a bit (whenever i have some time, that is). but i'm enjoying the hell out of it.
