Yep, the 20A fuse in my meter is blown................ >:( Off to Radio Shack.........And try again......
Mydlyf, I have tripple checked everything and have narrowed it down to the rotor or stator. I have a designated ground wire from batt. neg. post to the housing of the Kolher unit. The...
I tried again with just the meter attached to the AC wires going to the rec/reg unit and and I still get no amp reading at idle or rev. I am still reading AC voltage of 60+ AC volts at 4000 rpm's.
I have checked and just checked again and there is no continuity to ground on any of the leads. The only thing I have just noticed is the resistance of one set of charging coils is not up to spec. When I check pink AC wire from stator and yellow wire I get 1.5 ohms and when I check the pink and...
OK, so I tried seting the meter as described above. I hooked the meter is series with a 12V bulb and got 0 results. The light did not light and the meter stayed at 00.0. ???
You lost me. What setting on the meter is the current setting? Here is a link to the model meter I am using>> http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=sperry+dm-8400&qs=n&form=QBIR&pq=sperry+dm-8400&sc=1-14&sp=-1&sk=#view=detail&id=39E9F01FE10D854DF2426BD3B3B7D196096C08C8&selectedIndex=5
OK, I hooked the meter in line with the test bulb that is connected to the pink and yellow AC output wires that are disconnected from the rec/reg unit. I cranked the bike and got a reading on the meter but the light did not light up so I increased the revs and the meter reading increased but the...
Could do that but I'm thinking it's pretty conclusive I'm loosing amps since it does not blow the bulb when it should be. How many amps is not as important as why am I'm loosing them..........
Bert, in addition, I don't have a cheap multi-meter and I trust the 60V AC reading I get when I test the output of the stator at the yellow and pink wires. I also know it's not a badass bulb so it's safe to say what happened shouldn't have happened. The bulb should have blown. Since it didn't...
OK, my conclusion, the magnet on the rotor of my charging system is weak. The system shows correct voltage without a load but something breaks down under load. Question> Could a weak magnet on the rotor show good current and break down under load?
Hi Grazz, thanks for the info and link. I have infact done the exact test as shown in the clip to test the stator. The stator checked out good. If my theory is correct, then my stator is showing 60V AC output on a multimeter but when a load of any kind is brought into play, the voltage drops...
Hi Bert, I have the yellow and white joined together. I have the pink and yellow to rec/reg unit. I cannot read DC voltage output at the DC terminal on the rec/reg unit without the red/white 12V DC from the battery attached to it. The rec/reg unit I'm using requires at least 8V DC to operate so...
I have a 1971 Honda CB450. It is not charging to the battery. I have checked everything from the stator to the battery. Everything looks good by the numbers. I have 60+ AC volts at rev coming from the stator. I have installed a new Kolher rec/reg unit. I have replaced the battery twice. Here is...
