Trying to make a mean looking thruxton

I'm still plugging away at this (thanks for the interest hurley). It's been "just about done" for the last I don't know how long, and kind of one issue after another. Not really in a bad way, I guess 'cause each issue is a chance to learn something new, or approach something in a different way...

Trying to make a mean looking thruxton

Oops. Sorry about the pics, I'll try to fix them tonight. Wish I had an update, but I'm almost at a standstill with this wiring. Trying to redo the wiring harness on an EFI bike is doing my head in. Everything appears to be connected correctly, and the bike kinda starts up, but runs *really*...

How to prep fiddley shit for painting?

Thanks guys. I guess I just haven't had much luck getting into the really tiny little crevices and sanding around lettering and ridges and trying to get the entire surface even. There always seems to be these unfinished looking bits where I can't get to, and it just looks dodgy. I've tried...

Thoughts on EFI to carbs (no, it's not a 'which is better' discussion)

Thanks Bob. I know the Kiehin FCR carbs are pretty popular for the thruxton, so I'll check out if I can get some intake manifolds to fit. I have wiring diagrams for the EFI and carb models, so that'll help with identifying the differences. And thanks for the tip re. the drag car guys, that...

Thoughts on EFI to carbs (no, it's not a 'which is better' discussion)

Hey all, Maybe it's the fumes, but I've had a crazy idea whilst working in my garage recently. I have an EFI bike, and I've pretty much taken all of the parts on it off, so it's basically just a frame and engine, and I got to wondering what would it take to turn an EFI bike into a carb'd bike...

How to prep fiddley shit for painting?

Hey all, I've seen lots of threads on polishing and cleaning and degreasing and sanding and spraying and priming and prepping and, well, you get the drift, but something I've never really seen explained is how people clean up really awkward pieces and polish/prep them for painting. Posting a...

Trying to make a mean looking thruxton

Thanks for the comments, guys :) alpinaclone, my plan was to try out the thruxton front end on my new kz650 build this weekend, partly as a possible option, partly just to see what it looks like. If it's not even close to fitting, I'll PM you and let you know what I've got re. the thruxton...

1976 CB550K Rebuild- Indoor Living, NYC: Lester Mags and Ikon Shocks Version 2.0

Re: 1976 CB550K Rebuild- Indoor Living, NYC Thanks for posting this project along with all the great pics. I can't even describe how inspirational this build is for getting me started on my next project. Such an hot looking bike, too, moreso for knowing you built it in your apartment!

Trying to make a mean looking thruxton

The SV650 front end was almost a perfect fit. The bearing were identical, but I did have to shim the top steering bearing by about 1mm so I could tighten the top nut with enough pressure on the top bearing. I had to grind off the steering stops on the SV650 lower yoke and then drill and tap some...

Trying to make a mean looking thruxton

Hi all. Here's my medium arse project. I know this is the big arse projects section, but I think this is pretty minor compared to the things others are doing. I've been reluctant to post, just because this is the first time I’ve wrenched on a bike, and I don't really know what I’m doing, other...

    Battery eliminators?

Bit of a long read, but there's some info here http://www.triumphrat.net/club-cafe/113275-gel-batteries.html. There's a nice pic on page 3 of a thrux with no (visible) battery (I'll be doing this to my thruxton soon). From what I've read, you use 8 (2 x 4 cells) A123 battery cells and a charge...

    Hey there from Sydney, Australia

Hey thanks for the welcome. I'm in Glebe, so there's a few cafes for me to race around to (lol).

    Hey there from Sydney, Australia

Hi all, Wow, what an amazing corner of the internets! So glad I found this site. A little bit about me and my cafe racer... I sold my brand new Honda CBR600RR to get my brand new '09 tornado red Thruxton (my first ever cafe bike), and even though everything (brakes, performance, handling etc)...
