Thanks ADC...I may have stumbled upon a friend with a blasting cabinet today, so things are looking up :) The exhaust in question is a stock gl1000 which is a huge horseshoe beast. Hand sanding would take a day...
THanks guys, maybe the flaking stories were due to bad prep? Why not wipe it down with anything before paint? I would think acetone or alcohol would evaporate nice and quick. Should I degrease before then?
I was planning on using VHT to repaint my exhaust...but I have read some horror stories of it just flaking up and off when brought to temperature.
I expect the VHT to be more durable than the BBQ paint if it works...any experience or tips for a solid coating and good adhesion for mufflers? Not...
excellent, thanks.
So are you saying I stretch the vinyl, then insert screws or rivets on top of that from the inside of the pan?
My original vision was to fit them in from the outside in, prior to foam and vinyl. I would make a spike strip to get the fabric over and around. But that may be an...
This is for my CX500, I have made a fiberglass seat pan and I am concerned it's not thick enough for staples or will splinter. Sorry, my Kodak and Mac don't want to work together so no pictures, later. It's not a cafe, just a 2 up pan with a slight step up. It's 3-5 layers of glass mat...
Very effin sweet! Bare tank is lovely with the refinished badges, I want to steal your little bit of paint idea...but I will resist. And you went with something a little more comfortable than clubmans. The wheels also look great, good job.
What did you use to stick the badges back on (if they...
I was thinking that too, there's all this attention paid to painting some mechanical component bright red so it attracts more attention. But there could be a real cool bike that has a well finished exterior paint job but raw looking frame beneath it.
Are you bluing without a clear coat and it...
Thanks for the response about the seat. I am more confident in building a straight seat pan now. Red is not in the color scheme I am goin with but I hope you find a good home for it
Yeah the POR glisten looks good, I think I found that in my original searches, but I had already ordered the 2k. POR is actually made to go on metal though, even polished? I'll give it a host on the next go round. I wonder how well it deals with heat, for say valve covers.
@tin- not sure if you're still watching this thread, but I want to flat-seat my cx500 as well. It looks like you have a bit of forward lean angle in your seat with your solution. How has that felt riding? Does it shove you into the tank or is it comfortable?
I am considering going totally flat...
No, I am not looking for the high gloss. I want to let it sit, then I was thinking of sanding with like a 1500 to get it down to satin?
To answer my own question I was looking up metal prep for painting and it said acid etch OR abrasion. So I think my scotch-brite finish will suffice as long as...
Sweeet, thanks guys. I want to use this 2-part

says it's fuel resistant. I was originally going to...
I have been modifying a cx500, my first effort. I want to do a raw metal tank with a coating. Can I use a 2k rattle can on a roughed/brushed surface? I will not be working it to a high polish, or any sort of polish. Also would I want to use a metal etch as well as sanding or does the sanding...
