It lives!! Spent the afternoon swapping everything over from the old bike, including the unobtanium GS125 forks which are thankfully not bent. The new AGM battery for it even came 3 days early so I didnt have to bump start it for my test ride! Rides like a dream. Just waiting on my repop tank...
To anyone interested, I FOUND ONE! And not just any old replacement frame. A complete bike with just a hair over 800 miles! It even came with a ton of paperwork from the single owner. In the process of swapping all my parts over now. Spent the cold days tearing the old bike down to the frame in...
Also a little update for you guys; I got the seat back and shook the bike down on a few longer rides. The seat is very comfortable compared to my rubber-mat-with-towel-under-it test seat. lol.
Its not perfect and needs a bit of adjustment, but I like the color on it. During my ride I noticed...
I did not, but it never gave me any reason to believe compression was an issue. No smoke or strange behavior. Its on the agenda, but even if its a bit low itll have to do for now. Im not tearing down this engine. Lol. Hopefully Ill have a 600 built for it by next year.
As far as the exhaust...
All thats left is waiting on the seat! I have my friend trying her hand at recovering it with some old Maserati interior pieces I had lying around. If that doesnt pan out, I plan on hunting down a Giuliari seat from Europe.
Once the seat is back on, I can get back to riding it once it warms...
Anyway, I touched up the engine covers and gave it a coat of paint. I also painted the tops of the carbs while I had them apart for cleaning and the new fuel T. For some reason only the outside two are chromed.
I decided on crinkle paint for the valve cover. I would definitely recommend...
Bought the bike a year and a half ago for dirt cheap. Guy was moving to California the next day, so I talked him down from $1200 to $400. All it ended up needing was a battery and the carbs cleaned out/new pilot jets. I ended up putting new grips/handlebars, headlight brackets, a non-vacuum...
Im currently freshening up my XJ550 Seca for the spring. Repairing broken exhaust studs, fixing a fuel leak in the carbs, sorting out some wiring, and just generally cleaning it up. Im leaning more and more into the "street fighter" look, but right now Im trying to source some period correct JDM...
Gotcha. Ill see what I can manage.
The Rickman Zundapp I have eye on is literally just the frame, tank, rear wheel, swingarm, and forks. All of it is super crusty and rough. Itll be tough and EXPENSIVE sourcing parts in this part of the US. As much as I would like to. Lol
Im just trying to figure out the logistics of that. Lol. Never tried this before. Would it be easier to tear it down to bare frame?
I shot them a message, so well see. They have a suspicious amount of GN125 parts, so chances are they were all from a parts bike at one point. Parts bikes usually...
Right. Thats obviously the easy route if and when I find a parts bike/frame. Im currently on the hunt. But like you say, its worth at least trying to iron out the frame. Getting a good look at it, it all seems doable with enough leverage and patience. The tail end of the frame doesnt seem...
Thanks, I appreciate it. Im just now starting to walk again. Lol. So I might as well get right back on a bike. Its a shame these are so difficult to find in the US.
Thats a bit pricey for me, but its good to know theres professional options out there. I was thinking Id either eyeball it back into shape myself with a little wrestling or buy a cheap parts bike for $1-200 if I can find one. Theres a large motorcycle junkyard of sorts near where Im at that Ive...
