    resurrecting a Honda XBR 500

I feel like Jesus resurrecting a thread this old, but since it's my thread I'll go for it! A lot has happened since the last update, the bike is now driven daily but still a work in progress. As the project started to look more complete, I got anxious and took many shortcuts that I now know I...

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

Thanks crazypj, that might be worth a shot. I assume I need: Stator Rotor Regulator/rectifier Anything else?

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

Okay... Lets say I used the 2,9Ah battery linked here before. The alternator produces approximately 13,5 - 14,5V of voltage (after regulator/rectifier) depending on the current rpm. The battery datasheet says it's max charging current is 0,9A. If the regulator keeps the voltage between...

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

The bike is a Honda XBR 500(-86), and I'm not that worried about acceleration or top speed since this is not the fastest bike to start with, I'm merely trying to build a minimalistic bike. If there is no way around a big battery then I'll have to manage with it. Just the fact that I know there...

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

    How about a 2,9Ah battery then? http://www.cps.fi/Datasivu/CT/CT2.9-12.pdf

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

I really appreciate your input - this is the first time anyone has reacted to this question tho I've asked it several times on several different forums. However I feel so bad that this info came at this stage of the build (of course better now than while putting down flames under the seat)...

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

I just discussed this matter with a few friends and we were all under the impression that alternators do not "feed" excessive amperes to the battery, but stop charging as soon as the battery has reached it's peak charge voltage? Think of it like this: The battery is a pool, the alternator is a...

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

I've decided that I'll try the battery and see if it works. However, I'd still appreciate if someone smarter than me would care to explain if it's a bad idea to connect a tiny 1,2Ah battery to an alternator, that is designed to charge 12Ah batteries? Is it OK to have a big alternator - small...

Battery wattage, can I get away with 1.2Ah ?

Hey! I'm re-doing my electrics on the XBR (full build thread --> http://www.thumperclub.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=376c5267b8bde578321b0aa0931bc981&topic=4853.msg31972#msg31972) The standard battery was 12V / 12Ah but now I'm in the market for a tiny battery. The modifications I'm doing...

Help me sort out my wiring loom

So, I started to go through the wiring diagram to figure out which wires are useless to me so I can clean up the wiring loom a bit. Hopefully some of you have more experience reading diagrams than me so you can verify my conclusions before I cut something vital off my wiring loom.. Here's a...

    LiFePo4 aka A123 -batteries

Okay, so I read through this link:http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=599316 As you can see, the guy solders not only the main positive and negative leads, but a balanced connector as well, which gives one wire to the positive end of each of his six cells and a common negative. As it...

    LiFePo4 aka A123 -batteries

Okay, I've searched the web and it seems these A123 cellpacks are a quite good bang for the buck. I know that a few builders here have used or at least are planning to use one, but there's still no detailed info on how these actually work with a standard alternator on a motorcycle. I read...

    resurrecting a Honda XBR 500

I hadn't thought about that until you mentioned it. These clipons have a REALLY tiny angle - theyre almost straight. They don't fit under the top yoke without hitting the tank unless you reverse them. I think I'll ride the way they are for the following summer and maybe machine or buy custom...

    resurrecting a Honda XBR 500

Here's a small update, the forks are in and the rear wheel and tank are placed for a mockup. The original clip-ons are reversed and switched left to right and also the fork tubes are brought up an extra 10mm to quicken the steering a bit.
