Re: 84 GR650 frankencycle 2nd time around El Tempter (tank and mock up)
So tonight was an eventful evening..
Began by fitting the new jawa tank to see if it was the look i was going for.. which obviously led to removing the entire wiring harness to get a sense of what the bike was going to...
Thanks for the tip hillsy but I am looking for spoked rims and the GSX750EF only seems to come with mags
If i can't make the look work safely I will just find some GR650X spokes and run stock sizes.
thanks again everyone for the feedback
@teazer I definitely understand why classic car or high walled trailer tires wouldn't handle well or corner well.. If you look at my original inspiration picture I am wondering about running rear avon safety milage mk2 am7 5.00-16 TT.. Although its vintage design its a motorcycle tire made from...
thanks for the input rich, I am looking into all my options and trying to decide what direction to go with the front end.. But on a high note I gor a smokin deal on a 61 Jawa tank and headlight so im pretty stoked about that
Welllllll....I had a hunch this topic would bring out some strong opinions and it definitely wasn't my intent to stir the pot.. That being said.. strong opinions do often lead to good information and I do believe I am getting good arguments from both sides..
First off @ Redline, Your bike looks...
WIthout getting into a huge debate over fashion vs function I would like to get some opinions on running a balloon tire setup with a 16" rim on the front. I have heard arguments for both sides and I am looking for more insight before i take the step of purchasing a new front end
I am building a...
After Two seasons on the first incarnation of El Tempter it is time to tear it down and do it up right!! I am fortunate enough to have a good friend with an entire industrial machine shop that just so happens to have a loft with room for two bikes.. The shop is massive with an industrial...
Re: 84 GR650 Frankencycle

Re: 84 GR650 Frankencycle
Yeah I had it out all afternoon.. I re jetted the carbs, hollowed out the pipes and put on the pods and the thing flys!! I will post some pics of me riding it so you can get an idea of just how small the bike is now and see the stance.. It handles so well and has so...
Re: 84 GR650 Frankencycle
IT"S ALIVE!!!!!
So apparently I suck at keeping up at build threads...sorry... It has been a long spring full of trial and error and more error but today I finally hit the switch and with a sigh of relief, it ran like a very very loud top!! so here are some photos of...
hey dude, You can just move the switch.. I bought an aftermarket switch from princess auto and mounted it under the tank and hardwired the ignition to it... Im sure you can do the same with the kill or just hardwire it and keep using the key
Re: 84 GR650 Frankencycle
After reading up on the Vintage Firestone Deluxe tires ( and listening to Rich" advice) I have Decided to continue looking.. I would like to have something like the AVon SM MK II's but there is no way they are going to fit on the back without extending the swing arm...
84 GR650 Frankencycle the good and the bad
The good news
We finally had a warmer day so I was able to get outside and do some work... I cut off all the tabs and some mounts I wont be needing anymore and started some work on my skateboard seat..
The bad
I was looking at the forks and I...
