Happy New Year, Hoosier.
The spray carb cleaner wouldn't touch the black stuff on the jets, it wouldn't even clean out the bowls when left sitting over night. I was able to soda blast the bowls out nicely but its acting like a sealant down the ports and passages. Weird stuff. I've arranged to...
And to which I have lined up.. the whole kit and ka-boodle.. I'm able to do most of the work but not able to get into the little nitches and passageways.. Sometimes ya just gotta know when to hold 'em and when to outsource 'em ;)
Methinks my next winter project bike will be a twin or single...
On my other bikes, the added expense of premium over regular is offset by the better mileage I get. I did some tests on it a couple of years ago and found I could go further on a tank of premium than a tank of regular. On the touring bike, the difference in price is only 80 cents per tank for a...
Thanks for the tip. I found a Canadian guy who can do the whole thing at a great price, which includes ultrasonic cleaning, re-assembly ect. Basically, I get the carbs back ready to mount and run with all new seals and gaskets etc.. Having taken apart the first carb, I got my 'learning' in on...
Boiling pinesol.. how long is 'too long' ? What kind of damage could you expect from over exposure?
Would simple hot water boiling be enough and without damage? This is something I've not tried before.
Thanks for the reply.. Happy holidays!
Happy New Year! Hoping some experienced folks here might help me out with carb cleaning issues encountered here.. We can't get carb dip products in Canada, only spray cans. However, when opening up the carbs on my GS650G project bike, I found a mess of goo inside the float bowls from dissolved...
Now THERE is an awesome idea.. my OEM zerk wore out recently and the lubricant leaked out, and now I'm having a horrible time trying to find a replacement.. but I did find an alternate fiche number for the lubricant replacement though, unfortunately, (or fortunately?) it only comes in 40oz...
What bike is this? If it's a Suzuki, the dowel method prescribed above won't work as the neck has a weird curve to it which defeats any straight dowel / drift method from making contact with the bearing race.. It works on a lot of bikes but not the Suzuki..
I just did the bearings on my GS650G...
Origami Paint Booth
I needed a 'paint booth' space in the shop and didn't want something that would take up a lot of space, especially when not in use. So I put together a crude paint booth that folds up and can be tucked away for future use. When using various paints, I found a lot of dusty...
Did the blow out cause the bare strip on the tire or did the bare strip on the tire cause the blow out?! Regardless, that tire should have been changed out long ago. Glad that you survived that incident.. scary!
Rust? Where? Compared to the rust bucket my GS650G project started off as, your 400 is not that bad! I set up a soda blast cabinet for a few bucks where I can do both soda and glass blasting to get rid of the old finish with soda and the rust with the glass. Get some Evapo-Rust and start soaking...
Re: '81XS650 chop. ♡♥♡♥♡
PrincessAuto (gees, they need a manlier name for that store) has their Flux Capacitor welder on sale for $99 right now.. Don't know if it's any good.. I think I'll take the ugly sweater and wait for a Lincoln flux welder to show up on sale somewhere..
Re: Ichiban Moto : Yamaha 500 cafe racer build
How many people have already envisioned the 'final' video for this series? I hope the author has something planned already.. I had such a chuckle with this one.. Next time I fire up my customized VStar I'll show you how welll a foot actuated...
Unfortunately, on this bike the neck bearings and swing arm bearings are the cone shaped roller bearings, no seals or races.. The swingarm bearing are similar albeit smaller.. hence the concern if I accidentally blast glass on their surfaces and mar the finish..
Addendum: Silly me, I thought...
