1980 GS450 Codename: Athena(for now)
Okay little bit of a bitter sweet update for the day. I finally got the petcock in the mail. Got it installed and she started up perfectly. I've got a little bit of a lean situation when first started up but it works itself out when warm. Ill be adjusting...
A friend of mine has a cb450 that he put filters on and chopped the exhaust. He got a 6sigma kit with jets and 'instructions' on what to do(basically a bunch of internet links). I dont really know if he's gonna follow through with all of it.. Anyways I wouldn't personally go this far without...
The news about the studs is perfect! I can get everything tomorrow! Two clarifications so I dont want to shoot myself in the next 24 hours. The stud is threaded normally not reverse? and re installation should just go opposite of install correct?
As far as the drain plug goes...I'd really...
So Ive been restoring and TRYING to bring my bike back to at least rideable conditions(1980 GS450). Its just now finally running and I go to change the oil and filter and when I went to reinstall everything I realized not only that the oil drain plug was stripped(not too worried about that one)...

Edit: jussst kidding seems I missed something inbetween you saying it was running better and...

Refer to this:

Trust me rich, everyday since I picked up this bike and several days before when I was in major search mode I've been reading and digesting all the gs450 build I could. Went and signed up at gsr and gstwins as well and have been studying what everyones been...
1980 GS450 Codename: Athena(for now)
My plans for the near future include getting her running stock to get registered and to rule out PO lack of maintenance. Plus I don't want to worry about random problems while Im jetting. K&N on the way as well as oil filter. Gonna change the oil which...
I picked up my bike a couple weeks ago and have been troubleshooting and fixing/learning as I go. Started off with a new battery. Checked the stator and regulator. All within spec and in working order to the best of my knowledge and she ran okay for a little while but rpms would go up and down...
GS450 Codename Athena (for now)
Soooo! I went ahead and pulled the carbs and gave them a thorough cleaning. Ordered the Oring intake boot kit from cycleorings. Had to refresh the velocity stack things in the airbox with silicone spray. FINALLY got everything in the right place, took...
So, shes running and the charging system checked out fine. But now its back to the drawing and cleaning board. Engine is surging in neutral and through out the throttle range. Also seems to be sticking or something when I pull up to stop signs. Like 3-5k on the tach. Any advice would be...
