1973 CB500K2 rebuild, strange electrical or starter problems

Well, it looks bad. I jacked the bike up and put jackstands under the rear sets. Took the spark plugs out and tried to hand crank the motor by rolling the rear wheel in each gear, wouldn't budge. I even lifted the bike's rear end up by one of the mag wheel spokes and it would not move. Took the...

1973 CB500K2 rebuild, strange electrical or starter problems

I think you are right. I just tested everything again and made sure the leads to the battery terminals were all secure and tight and that nothing was improperly connected. I turned the key and there was no pop or noise. Turned the key off and back on and this time I heard it come from the...

1973 CB500K2 rebuild, strange electrical or starter problems

I've got a '73 CB500K2 I had rebuilt professionally, including a top and bottom half of the engine. Everything has been put back together, with some professional machine work so I could integrate a Ducati swingarm and CBR600RR fork up front. Installed the electrical loom on the outside and...

    CB350 Overheating?

There are several things to check here. If you replaced the carburetors or installed new ones, they most likely have factory jets in them. If your bike has aftermarket exhaust and/or air intakes, that will not work. You will need to upgrade the jet carburetor jets; these are the needle jet, main...

    '73 CB500F K2 motor rebuild questions

Sure thing. Got the pistons fairly clean last night, and a lot of the caked on hard carbon deposits on the valves removed just by soaking and cleaning with a nylon brush. I'd like to do a compression test though too, but ill go with your recommendation first. It looks like the cam chain...

    '73 CB500F K2 motor rebuild questions

Ok this is helpful. Definitely hasnt been raced, and the top end wasnt in bad shape, just 40 years of carbon build up on the valves and tops of the pistons. I'll check out ordering a set of rings for the pistons since I'm already in there. Thanks for the reply!

    '73 CB500F K2 motor rebuild questions

Hey guys, I joined a while back but haven't posted in a while. I do have a few questions about doing a rebuild of my 500F motor. I started this on Friday night last week after giving some consideration to it. I've been restoring the bike from a mediocre state that I bought it in a year back; new...

Fuel lines, best practices on CB500F

I've tried numerous ways and types of fuel lines on my CB500F, but there does not seem to be enough room under the tank petcock valve for the fuel lines to be used with inline filters without kinking. Right now I'm using Motion Pro lines I got from 4into1 with some small plastic inline filters I...

    Howdy from Seattle

Just signed up moments ago after having visited this site a number of times for knowledge and general "know how" info while rebuilding my '73 CB 500. Now that I am largely finished, I look forward to interacting with you all and possibly running into a few of you at Backfire every month. Cheers!
