1978 CB550K. Scenario: Ignition off, battery disconnected from bike, black lead should ring to ground, but should the red lead ring to ground? I am tying to troubleshoot battery draining issue.

Typically if it's left in that state, you won't be able to save it. But if you get it on the correct tender that will balance the cells, it should restore it. Obviously if it happens a lot, the same will not happen. Any ideas on why it died?

Makes sense - while we are on the topic of these gaskets, does anyone have any laying around (in the NJ/PA area)? Ordering from a site, even though they are very cheap, will probably come out to $20 after shipping is factored in.
