The hoop was 8-7/8", I bought mine from First City Moto, cut it down and welded it on. A new seat is on the list of things to do once the bike is running the way I want it to. I do plan on keeping this one for long distance/pillion stuff though, it's quite comfortable.
More small updates. Still waiting on my bar end blinkers and new bar end mirror (current bargain bin one won't work with the blinkers) but I've gotten some other parts in!
My 4-1 yoshi style exhaust from Carpy came and was promptly installed so I can finally ride without 5 pairs of ear plugs...
Appreciate it man, no rush. I'm on 10 hour days so I know a taste of the pain lol. I emailed Steve about the exhaust and I'm still waiting to hear back from him. Either way the IRS hasn't sent my refund so for now I'm stuck with the ridiculousness that is an open-header CB.
So today I put the bike back on the scales to see what kind of progress I've made (since weight reduction was the original goal).
I had hoped to get down into the 400s from the original weight of 542.5lbs
I got so much further than I expected! 458lbs!!
And a perfect weight distribution to...
When you do get it on can you do me a favor and measure the clearance between the exhaust and the swingarm? The CBR swinger is quite a bit wider and I'm currently planning on buying the mild exhaust so I can bend it out a bit, but if it clears by enough I'll just get the ceramic coated one and...
More progress! She lives! More on that in a bit.
Last week my brake light came in, this thing is nice. I've seen a few builds with cheap chinese LEDs and they just do not compare to the real deal. This thing is slim and bright.
With a little bit of heat I managed to get it formed to the...
Thanks guys!
Been making more progress this week. High on the list of getting the bike running again is new mounts for all the electrical goodies. Since super light is the name of the game here the obvious solution was carbon panels. While making the panels I figured I might as well use some of...
I've also got an 81 and a turbo is on my list of future things to do as well. Nice build man, but how do you adjust chain tension with fixed axle plates? Gonna run a tensioner on the swinger?
Rear sprocket came in!
This thing is a featherweight. Full 7075-T6 47 tooth 520 sprocket, not the fanciest one they sell but with the high wear rate I'm not willing to spend $80+ every time I need a new one.
Dreading the work ahead I decided to buy a front sprocket on the assumption I'd...
A few more minor updates while I await delivery of my new rear sprocket:
Finished my wiring diagram!
What an enormous pain that was, but hopefully it'll save some headache later. I've finally ordered all the connectors I need to build a new harness so the bike might actually run again soon...
Little more progress. Finally got a rear hoop, cut it down, welded it on, refinished the frame and painted the swingarm to match. Today the goal is reassembly!
Test fit after cutting the hoop down
Staring deep into the pretty blue light
Didn't blow any holes in it!
After the final round...
I have a '97 CBR1100XX swinger on my bike, but it was about .06 too wide so it was machined down. Then it was just a custom set of spacers to use the stock pivot bolt.
If your forks are too long you can easily fix that by sliding them down in the triples. It's a lot more expensive to make...
Probably not. I have a 2009 R6 front end on my 81 CB750 and I needed a new stem and bearings. Cognito moto made my stem, if they don't have one for a 95 CB750 I believe they make custom ones.
