Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

I checked for CM200 seats, but it doesn't look like they have anything specific for that model. Not sure if it's the same pan as the cm400, but here's the link: http://www.motorcycleseatsdirect.com/search.php?search_query=cm400&x=0&y=0

God, no. There's a company that makes cafe seats with the original seat pan, so I won't have to cut the frame.

I'm definitely putting the front fender back. I'll probably chop it a little, but yeah. gotta have it back. What is the consensus, if any, about these? http://www.dimecitycycles.com/chrome-12-inch-shorty-muffler.html I definitely don't want the stock cones back on. Makes the thing sound like...

Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

Partial update: So, stripped the tank. New chain and front sprocket are in and will be on asap. I have to buy a chain tool. I've been riding it back and forth to work, about a 20 minute ride at varying speeds (20-60mph) and it handles well, but is under-powered. I know, I know. This pic is...

    75 CB550 GSXR Fork Cafe/Brat Video/Pic Build THread

I don't mean to derail CZ's thread. So we can move this to my (severely un-updated) thread if we need to. But what would you suggest to boost hp? To me, an admitted novice, pods + a re-jet seems like it would boost hp.

    75 CB550 GSXR Fork Cafe/Brat Video/Pic Build THread

Hey bro. I watched all your YT vids about this build a few months ago and JUST found you on the forum! I wanted to ask you about your velocity stacks. It seems like just about everyone on the forum is anti-stack. I understand the risks, but I'm looking to put either pods or stacks on my bike. Do...

Inherited Grandpa's old Bike. Cafe Time!

Thanks for the info, guys. DTT is such a great resource for noobs like me. So after I make the 60/40 mix, would I just submerge the shocks in a tub? Will it damage any plastics or rubber?

Inherited Grandpa's old Bike. Cafe Time!

Is this the stuff you used? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip-1-gal-Phosphoric-Prep-and-Etch-GKPA30220/100406369 My rear shocks could use some rust removal.

Re: 1972 CB350 Resto-Mod Let us know how you end up mounting the seat. I've thought about buying one from them as well.

    1981 Honda CM400 Build

Any updates to this thread? I'm working on my CM400 and would love to see how this thing ended up.

Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

Sorry for the radio silence lately, guys. I started a new job and have had very little time to work on the bike. To update, I checked the sprockets and they're not in need of immediate replacement. I'll replace them probably after the new year, just for the experience. I want to replace the...

    College Kid Cafe Racer Build

Sorry to hear read about the engine, Alex. I got my first bike, a similar CM400, myself a few months ago, but mine was in great working shape. I'm on the cafe route as well, but I'm not planning on going "cafe cool." Just a couple little tweaks to an already functioning bike. I'll keep up with...

Thanks so much for all your advice, Trek97! Duly noted on the air box. The air filter is pretty dirty, so I'll replace that asap. I'm adjusting the chain tomorrow, but it is time for a new one regardless. I don't see any cracks, but it's rusted all over.

Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

I'm reading 3/8-3/4 inches, which it definitely doesn't have now. But it wasn't shifting well when it wasn't adjusted. I guess it's not shifting well now either. I'll reverse my changes in the morning and take another look.

Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

Ok, new snag: I got the cables rerouted so the throttle no longer sticks. As soon as I got it re assembled, I noticed that the clutch was now not taught enough to allow shifting. I used the threaded tension adjusters at the lever and at the actual clutch to bring a little tension back to the...

Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

Thanks for the manual link! I took it around the block a couple times with the new bars on, and they didn't feel too bad. I'm a tall guy, so time will tell I guess. and now that you mention it, I actually may leave the rear fender and just replace the lights. As far as safety goes, the tires...

Progress on my 1981 Honda CM400e cafe project

https://youtu.be/TbX1XPwwCLE Ok, I've run into my first snag. Clubmans came in today, and I installed them. My problem is: the throttle line is getting a big bend in it from the more compact position on the new bars. The bend is throttling up the motor and causing a really high idle. It's not...
