Great progress in the past two days since starting the bike. I have done the following tasks:
1) put on and adjust chain.
2) check drive and shifting on center stand
- only problem here is that it will not stay in first gear. It keeps jumping up to neutral.
3) clean up the wiring, and put on...
Hey hey I'm back and so is the CB! I got the bike up and running today after finally debugging all of the original wiring system. After hooking up the fuel tank, and buying a fire extinguisher, the bike fired right up with the electric start. I ran it in neutral for about 20 minutes with no real...
Haha it's a 5x5 foot storage unit. The thing barely fits on the diagonal. I'm going to have some friends help me lift it out when we attempt to start it outside. It rolls fine, but it's literally wedged into the unit. Definitely beats paying an extra $50/month for the bigger unit ;D
Good news today!
I picked up a $50 battery at Advance Auto Parts and hooked it up to my bare bones wiring setup. I turned the key on, turned off the kill switch, tapped the starter wires together and BOOYAH the motor turned over with ease. I was short on time, but only noticed spark on one of...
Just had a nice relaxing morning examining the wiring harness off of the bike. My Guatemalan roommate made some delicious coffee from back home that fueled the past few hours ;D. Took a lot of the wrapping off and just started to trace the wiring diagram to get an understanding for it. I...
Build Updates:
Coils tested and installed
Air box interior sanded, wire brushed, and installed
New clutch spring installed
Handlebars installed with throttle and clutch
I had the carburetors installed, but then realized that I forgot to replace the aftermarket air screws with the stock ones...
After two weeks of exams, I've been able to make some nice progress on the project during the weekend.
1) Engine is back in the frame, and mounted up. Old oil sludge cleaned from oil pan and replaced with new gasket. New oil filter installed.
2) Successful compression test. All cylinders have...
Mobius,
Thank you for the advice on the carbs. I will be sure to inspect all of the passageways with the carb cleaner spray to ensure that they're good to go. Some of the original jet components inside the carb (main jet and valve seat) were chipped and coroded and needed to be replaced. The...
The plastic will not be fuel resistant, so I will be coating it with a chemical coating to make it a usable part. Thinking por15, EC-776 from 3M, etc. Ideally I wouldn't have to order something in a massive quantity.
I'm almost all finished with the carburetors now, I just have to assemble the last one that I've cleaned and then link them all on to the carb bracket. I've been using a custom made agitator to enhance the soak in the carburetor cleaner. You can see from the picture that it's as simple as it...
Hello out there! I am so excited to finally start on my own project after researching and shopping for so long. I am an engineering student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, and I just purchased a 1975 Honda CB400F. The bike needs A LOT of work to get back on the road, but that's just what I'm looking...
