Truly a sweet looking bike mate. Been inspirational in my own build. It deserved a fresh engine even without the troubles, very well rounded bike, couldn't ask for anything better myself! Now time to enjoy it.
That looks sweet, I reckon you could sell a fair bit of this machined stuff if you wanted to. There is a CB450DOHC facebook group that you could join and I dare say a decent number of members would be interested. Fair few of them in OZ too, but mostly US and EU. Even if you kept your's unique...
Tidy work as always mate. Really got to get myself a house with a shed so I can tinker and make all the stuff I want to, I can only plan stuff these days and get a fabricator to make it or wait till I can get a shed and some tools.
I prefer the ones you milled :P but that's just because I like machined stuff. That brake lever is very nicely done too, that mill setup you have is very capable!
If you put up a different angle photo of the milled one that would help I think. Much sleeker side on.
fender looks really nice. did you make the fender yourself? it's a good fit, very neat. I have similar front fender mounts from tube and round bar but I bolted them from the top of fender.
We have Compulsory Third Party insurance as part of our registration cost, typically more than 50% of the cost is for this CTP insurance. CTP only covers injury to third party's, ie passenger, pedestrian or driver and passenger in other vehicles. It does not cover your personal injuries or...
Now that I didn't know they made, that is great, all potential issues with other used stators aren't a factor with a newly magnetized rotor.
Between this and the hot shot stator you should be sweet!
It's fully capable of running a 55w bulb if the only change is the 55w bulb and the hot shot stator and everything else is stock and in good condition, if anything else is changed on the system, then it needs to be tested. You can probably get everything sorted and be able to run the 55w bulb...
I'm in QLD, I'm curious about the club permit for my 71 CB450. How do they police the 45 days? and are there restrictions on which days those can be, ie do I have to be riding to a club meet or can it be just any old day? Being able to ride my bike once every week or two and have full...
Found your thread here, more active than HT. If your bike charged fine with your headlight off then your reg/rec fuse is fine.
I'd test with that 35w head light and then move on to testing another rotor.
coming along nicely. lots of nice machined bits and custom fab'd stuff!
If you were real keen you could machine up a custom oil filter cover and put a external oil line on it directly to the cam journals, like the one from cappellini, but keep the stock oil transfer piece etc
similar to this...
It only replaces the starter solenoid if the starter motor draws low amperage, less than 30a I think, which these bikes do not, starter solenoid is required.
The CB450 is a pretty high strung bike that requires a bit of maintenance to keep it happy, but if you are happy to keep it running well it is a great bike. If you are ok to change the oil regularly, check the valve clearance and set the points/timing then you'll be fine.
The 400/550 are...
I don't think it would be a showstopper, but it may accelerate wear in the long run. Provided the oil pressure is enough to force oil through the helical spiral despite the rotation of the cam sort of pushing oil in the wrong direction I think it would actually work fine, just something to keep...
None, it is plenty strong, everything basically the same just slightly longer. You could argue the angle of the shocks is less ideal but it really is no issue. The lighter hub is a plus. You've switched your front end so your wheelbase and handling characteristics have changed but longer...
Really nice work mate, living the dream by the way with the mill etc. Good setup. I'm in oz and building a CB450 too. Bike looks fantastic so far and can't wait to see what else you do with it.
I noticed you used the left rear cam cover on the front right to remove the tacho drive, did you...
