Thanks everyone. As I'm reading up on the TX500 this last week, the parts are pretty scarce. I cant even find a hard copy of the service manual. Looked for the XS500 as well. The seller couldn't tell me why the bike is out of commission as he was given it by a friend. There is no need to...

The only thing I was told about the bikes was that the TX spent the last 10 years of its life as an ice racer. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using Tapatalk

    1974 Yamaha TX-500.....Rebuild time!!

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500 I read your opening post to the wife. She laughed at the part about the "evil eye". I am pretty sure we have all been there with at least one bike purchase. I know I have.

Does a bigger tire always mean a bigger tube?

Thanks pj, I have a couple sets of extra rims lying around the garage. Also I am using a front drum setup.

Great job so far! I had great results with oxalic acid. Also known as wood bleach. I soaked my rims for 24 hours and they wiped clean with a rag. Bye bye rust.

Yeah I've already lost some skin. Didn't like that much at all. Thanks again!

Does a bigger tire always mean a bigger tube?

I agree with everything your saying but if I'm reading it right, the speed rating is a P on the 3.00 18. Here is where I looked for my info. My wanting to be safe yet save a little dough, is just making me keep asking questions. Although safe and save money do sound bad together some times. :D...

Does anyone have an opinion on this tire? I'm asking because it says scooter tire. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/32/404/32666/ITEM/IRC-NR53-Front---Rear-Scooter-Tire.aspx?WT.ac=Cart_Item

Does a bigger tire always mean a bigger tube?

Thanks guys! maybe when I was searching I read that people were putting these wider tires on there bikes but was not reading they were also putting on a wider rim. I better do a better job with research in the future.
