    Metro Detroit Cafe Racers

This site has drawn me back into the fold! Time to bring out the cafe bike after a 3 year garage hiatus! When I started putting my bike together back in 2006/2007, I couldn't find anyone in Metro Detroit to hang, ride, or wrench with. There was a FB page for MI cafe racers but it has since...

    Fuel Type

Howdy All... Been far too long since I hung out on these boards, but winter in MI and 6 months south of the border (the US border) has got me out of the loop. Just had a question - albeit maybe a mute point... What grade of fuel do you guys run in your CB's? It's about that time for me to...

    CB350 oil filter

Aright... Dumb Question... On the 350 twin, when changing the oil, are you supposed to be able to remove the oil filter? If so, how do you do so? Neither manual I have gives any illustration, clear view, or explanation of it. Just to clean the "cup" that the stuff spins out into. When taking...

    Toledo Anyone?

Howdy. I am just outside of Detroit, and was wondering if there are any cafe'ers in the Toledo area? Magikphun (and if so, would any be interested in zipping up for the Woodward Dream Cruise in MI) Magikphun

Birth of a seat for the Magikphun Project...

Started the seat today... Not sure how I am supposed to deal with the seat pan since it arches up, and presumably into the hump... Thoughts and suggested, tips, and tricks welcome...

How does the fender go on!?

So I went to refinish the rear fender on my cl350 project... But I forget/cant figure out where the front "tab" on the rear fender is supposed to go. If I remember correctly it was mounted underneath something (possible something I removed?), and then gets bolted at the top to the same place...

    Tanks, Fenders, and Paint...

Howdy Y'all... The Magikphun Project is coming along this week... The Hooker 2 into 1 has been saved, sanded, and painted, the busted shock stud is at the welder as I type... The tank has been bondo'd and the front fender has been painted... Pictures to follow tomorrow... But a question since...

    Tank Crossover - CB350

I am in the process of stripping the paint off my tank. When I got the bike, the cross over fuel line ran under the frame, making it so that I had to disconect the crossover to pull the tank, and in the process dump fuel all over the bike. Was this deisgned this way, or is the crossover...

    Exhaust Re-Finish

One more question this evening... If you look @ my bike in the projects section (magikphun) you will noice there is a 2 into 1 on my cl350. It seems very solid and salvageable save the surface rust that is on it... What is the best way to tackle this? Use a product like a POR15 that you apply...

    Chain Guard, Fenders, Tail Lights...

Howdy All... A couple questions as I tear into my cb350 (really a CL350 but whatever) this weekend - I will post some pics of progress here as well under the Magikphun Cafe project section as they happen... 1) Chain Guard - I removed the tool box from the bike as well as the chain guard. Is...

    seat pan material

I am ordering parts to have sent to my house for when I get home to do up my cb (really a CL) 350 cafe... I am making a cafe seat via the old gas tank method.. but as I recall from the winter when I had my seat off, I believe my seat pan was plastic is it not? If it is what is the best way to...

    finned dyno / point covers

Does anyone sell finner dyno/point covers for the cb/cl 350 TWIN? I have found them for the four... If they don't make them readily, would there be any market for them? Magikphun

    Head Gasket Question...

I am getting ready to return to MI where my bike is, and get to work on my cafe project for the summer and i think i have to replace the head gasket (oil seepage) but I will be checking the tach seal first as suggested... If it is the head gasket, how difficult/time consuming is it to change...

cb350 shock bolt snapped - just how screwed am I?

Howdy Y'all. So I began mycb350 project today. First mission? Remove the luggage rack. Casualty report: One snapped bolt that held the luggage rack on, and also the top end of the left hand shock unit. What is the prognosis? How screwed am I!? Here is an image...

    The Magikphun CB350 Project

Howdy Y'all. Finally got back to MI for a couple weeks and will start working on my project, a stripped down rattlecan primered cb350 (when I am done with it). Here are the official before photos- minus the luggage rack that was already on the bike. As I am on the road a bit, I only get...

    Rear Shock Repaint cb350

What is the best way to freshen up pitted out cb350 shocks on a budget? I am thinking of lass bead blasting and then dupli graying or just satin clear, but I suspect paint on a moving spring could be an issue. Any thoughts or experience? magikphun

    cb350 seat from a tank

Does anyone have any experience here building a cafe "hump" seat from a tank for their cb350 using the original style seat pan? I am contemplating doing it, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to the best tank to use and best ways to go about it and attatch the tank to the plastic...
