    1975 BMW R90/6 - Rocinante

Looking good. I haven't seen where you mentioned the reason for the name. Isn't that a fairly obscure reference to a horse?

    74 TX650 wheel building.

Looks really nice. I ran a pair of those rear rims on my CB350 race bike back in the 80's and developed some cracks in the rear rim. I don't know what caused the cracking, but it was only on the rear rim in 2 different places. They were pretty used rims when I laced them up and I have not heard...

    '99 SV650 track rebuild

I used a different ground cable on the last battery I mounted there. I think I ran it to a motor mount bolt or someplace on the frame. I didn't see a good way to use the stock ground. I just found one in my spare wiring stock. It was probably off a CB350 or FZ600.

Read valve breather and catch can for the 74 TX650.

I almost always run into the same issue with racebikes. If I have to run the stock airbox, I don't like the idea of running the oil vapors in there and if I am running superbike classes without the stock airbox, the rules state it has to run to a catch can. I usually use a brake fluid can it is...

    '99 SV650 track rebuild

I did the same with the electronics on the last one I did. With the stripped down race harness it made the packaging pretty nice. For a race bike, it just made sense. Yours is looking good.

    PMA conversion.

Hey Irk, I am glad to know that you and I are now mates. I had an interesting conversation with a guy at the Mid-Ohio swap meet that was selling Chinese rims and clip-ons. He lived in China and worked directly with the manufacturers. His take on it is that you can get any quality of product if...

Thanks for the reply, Sparky. Have a nice day.

I hadn't realized that this was a competition based solely on how long you have been working on customizing bikes. SInce you have been building customs since the 60's, you have me beat by about 10 years so I would be foolish to make any comments about how you are doing any of these...

    1980 CB750 “Beavertail” Cafe Build

The exhaust you have pictured is not the stock exhaust. It is a MAC. There isn't anything wrong with MAC, but they were the cheapest of the 4-1 replacments at the time. All of the stock DOHC 750 exhausts have turned to rust by now. I have a MAC header section on my Seca 550 racebike and it works...

    GP 200 Race Prep

I think with a .002 clearance you will be fine with a normal break in process. For me, that was an easy couple of laps in the first paractice session, run the whole next practice easilly without getting the oil temp too high. After that I just send it. I agree that you can't have too much oil...

    GP 200 Race Prep

It sure loooks like classic cold seize to me, also. How much time did that engine have on it? I would be concerned about a .005" piston clearance unless it is a high mileage or many seasons of racing. I liked to set up my race engines with a tight .0015 clearance with cast pistons and a tight...

    DR650 Cafe. Scratch Built Amelioration

I probably have #6 but it is still in the motor. When I pull the clutch cover, I'll pull it out. I don't use the automatic decompression, I just learned how to kick start these beasts. I know where the tensioner and slipper is, so I can box them up. I have not had any problem running the 144-21...

    DR650 Cafe. Scratch Built Amelioration

I think I have spare cam chain tensioners if you want them. I also have a brand new still in the box Megacycle 144x21 cam. I have had it for about 35 years and don't think I will be using it since I haven't built that kind of engine again. To run that cam it needs valve springs and retainers...

    XL500S

I have made some more progress. I have an exhaust tacked together and mounted up and I found the engine bolts and spacers so it is bolted in. I am still working on the rear brake set up since the original was a cable operated drum and I am going with hydraulic disc. I am still deciding what...

    1974 Honda CL360 barn find

Holy Smokes, I am surprised I didn't see your buddy's dad on the road. 1975, I am a freshman at UW-LaCrosse. Deer season is around Thanksgiving and I am going to meet my brothers at our usual deer hunting spot near Necedah, about 75 miles away, so I get up at 5 am and load up my 1975 Honda...

    1974 Honda CL360 barn find

If you are going with a built engine, I'd make sure to pick up a spare bike to use for parts as this is going to be a never ending project.

    1974 Honda CL360 barn find

I have a pair of VM34s you can have. They are pretty much all there, but I know they came off a snowmobile so the jetting will be all wrong. You can have them if you want them.

2004 SV650 Neo Classic Cafe Fighter

I put a TWF box on the last SV racebike. I was able to mount the solenoid, R/R and ecu to the same box. It will work great on a racebike hidden behind the fairings. It would not look good at all on a naked street bike.

    1974 Honda CL360 barn find

    I think a 32 would be a better fit for a 2-1 carb setup.

    1974 Honda CL360 barn find

PJ, here on this site, modifies your carbs to give the proper jetting and improve throttle response. CV carbs can work very well and have excellent throttle response. The poor performance of emission era cv carbs was more due to lean jetting and people putting poorly designed pod filters on...
