    My BRAT 1979 CB650Z - Never Done

Re: My BRAT 1979 CB650Z - Tools down - Done Fair enough. I'm in favor customization, but I'm even more in favor of patient craftsmanship. I also like builds that work with the original style of the bike. Just opinions. That is my bike, rebuilt completely. The build thread's in my sig.

    My BRAT 1979 CB650Z - Never Done

Re: My BRAT 1979 CB650Z - Tools down - Done Maybe I'm just getting older, but that was a pretty nice bike to begin with. I'm not sure you improved it. Those original side covers were pretty nice. Tin-snipped aluminum, not so much.

1977 XS750 to XS885D - For sale for real this time

Re: 1977 XS750 to XS885D - Just riding it now I took it out today for a nice ride. Living in Seattle means occasional winter riding, unlike Chicago, where I parked it in November and pulled it out in April. It ran fine, but I am getting some brake squeal. I think that when the calipers were...

    XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork (pics pg 13)

Re: XS850 - Monoshock & USD Fork - Cafe Build I love the build. You will get significantly more strengthening if you tie the two parallel frame tubes together with plate steel or some type of triangulated latticework.

1977 XS750 to XS885D - For sale for real this time

Re: 1977 XS750 to XS885D - I can't sell this thing. Moving to Seattle. Thanks. I ended up keeping the bike and adding a Guzzi V7. The Guzzi handles commuting duties. Search for UNI PK-92 filters.

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

My favorite quote from the ad, "The engine has been tore down and all the functioning parts have been replaced." .... so you didn't replace the non-functioning parts? Got it. Another gem, "I had to have everything extremely clean to achieve a powder coat on the wheels and frame." ... Yes...

1977 XS750 to XS885D - For sale for real this time

Re: 1977 XS750 to XS885D - What's it worth? Looking to sell. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I started it up today for the first time since fall. I didn't have the time to actually ride it, as I was on kid duty, but just hearing it fire up and idling made me second guess whether or not I...

1977 XS750 to XS885D - For sale for real this time

Re: 1977 XS750 to XS885D - What's it worth? Looking to sell. I accepted an offer for a job out in Seattle, and given how much I have to worry about before the move, I'm debating selling the bike. I have no idea what a reasonable price for it is. I probably have >$5k in it at this point, but I...

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

Well, as he says, at least all the hard work is done. At this point, all you have to do is buy a new frame and start over.

thinking of murdering out my bike.

So true. There has to be some contrast, and something to indicate that it wan't just spray painted. As an example, stainless sidecover fasteners on a black engine are always a nice touch, as it tells me the engine was painted properly and not spray painted while assembled. Contrast adds depth...

    1980 XS850 Brat (FINISHED!!!)

Re: 1980 XS850G Brat/Track/Scrambler That isn't an XS750, it's a CB750. That's a Wrenchmonkees bike. All the info is on their site. There are a few chain conversion XS750's out there, but I view the shaft drive as a positive and something distinct about the bike.

1977 XS750 to XS885D - For sale for real this time

Re: 1977 XS750 to XS885D - The Northern Winter Sorry for the slow response. The bike is in winter hibernation. Below are some pics. There is a slight taper all the way around, so keep that in mind. The top width maxes at about 8 inches, but the bottom is slightly wider. Padding depth: 1.5...

thinking of murdering out my bike.

That bike's not really my style, but all black bikes look terrible. It's about the laziest thing you can do with a bike's style, and for it to look even vaguely good, you've got to do it right. No one ever does it right.
