Engine running good one day, Shit the next?? Whats wrong!

Yea, I got the bike to the storage unit so i have a warm place besides my parking lot now to work on it. But it's finals time so it'll have to wait. I know whats wrong so I'm gonna work on it after it's done. I did have inline fuel filters... Are those worthless? Cuz clearly my carbs still got...

Engine running good one day, Shit the next?? Whats wrong!

Well... seems like I figured it out. Spark was there so I knew the connections and the coils were good. I had purchased new NGK B7ES plugs to replace my fouled plugs and it started right up on choke like normal, but it still wasn't revving up high like it normally does. So I knew something was...

Engine running good one day, Shit the next?? Whats wrong!

MadRatter: I really do hope that's it... Socalmike: You're right... I never checked for spark on the plug... I just assummed it was ok because it has ran fine a few days ago... I'm gonna go buy some new plugs for it later today and give it another go. If my left cylinder isn't firing, why...

Engine running good one day, Shit the next?? Whats wrong!

I have not actually... I supposed that's a good possiblity cuz my bike unfortunately has been sitting outside for awhile... and we are getting some big temp swings from day to night... (50F to 30's) I will check for that tomorrow after I get some new plugs.

Engine running good one day, Shit the next?? Whats wrong!

Alright guys, I have a 74 KZ400 and it's been running well for the past few weeks finally. I rode it like 4 days ago and it was perfectly fine. Today, I saw snow/rain on the forcast for Sunday so I figure it was probably time to ride it to my storage unit and put it away for the winter. I...

    Longer control cables?

This is a small college town so there aren't as many local shops as I'd like. Also, I will check the thickness of the bars. I didnt even think about it. But it is pretty heavy and looks close. It for sure isn't paper thin

    Longer control cables?

You know... I was skeptical at first and that's why I've stayed with drag bars. But it doesn't look that bad. Kinda a shitty picture after i got back from campus.

    Longer control cables?

Hey guys, I got ahold of some new handlebars that essentially are 13-14" or so ape hangars. I currently have drag bars on my 74 KZ400 and always have been wondering how it would look with bars like apes or zbars, etc. Anyway, I was walking to go study today and found one of those old school low...

    74 KZ400 21" front wheel options?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew what options I had if i wanted to run a 21" front wheel on my 74 kz400. My buddies brother has a cb360 that he put a 21" front wheel off a old honda dirt bike with drum brakes. I want to do the same thing but I cannot find any information on this...

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

Well, slapped the air filters back on and wow, idles 1000 rpm lower already! but when i close the choke, it still dies out. I think it's not getting enough air when I close the choke... How open is the throttle plate supposed to be when the bike is just idling? And how do i adjust it?

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

Well this could just be i'm running open carbs and open mufflers right? It's sucking in a ton of air and not enough fuel for the amount of air it's getting with the open exhaust and carbs... I think i should just throw the stock airbox on for now and see how it does... Then go from there? Cuz I...

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

What do you mean when you say "CVs"? I did know that i would have to rejet with pods and an open exhaust. The bike never came with a muffler so I don't have it, but I"ll have to stick the stock airbox back on for now. What about the dying when I close the choke? Does that need to be adjusted...

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

Ok guys, Good news. Went thru the carbs today and cleaned everything and finally got fuel to flow to the bowl in the carbs. Few kicks with the kick starter with the choke open and it sprang to life :) Problem now is, it starts with the choke open. Idles around 3500rpm and has little surges up...

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

I will have to make sure to take note of all that. And the bike came with it's original manual :) I"ll have to check it out and see if i can find the "factory" settings for them.

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

Sweet, I've been thinking it's the carbs as well. Just really didn't wanna tear into them unless I had to... I should be able to just disassemble the parts, and shoot carb cleaner thru all the jet passages and make sure it's clear, then reassemble right? Thanks Eric

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

That was my thought as well as far as lacking fuel flow. All the lines to the carbs are free flowing. I will have to check the bowls today and see if the carbs are letting fuel through. I was suspecting the carbs were kinda plugged and I wouldn't be surprised if they were because the old gas...

    '74 KZ400 Startup issues...

Hey guys, So I just purchased a 74 KZ400 and it's in GREAT shape... Anyway, it was supposed to have been running but the previous owner had it sitting for a few months in a garage. So we tried to start it yesterday, and it didn't seem to want to turn over. So we checked the spark plugs and...

    CB/CL350 Throttle Control Options?

Hey guys, I have a CL350 right now that i'm in the process of building a Cl350. Anyway, i don't plan on running the stock kill switch on the handlebars. I'm sure i'm not the only one who has done so, but what is everyone using on their grips to mount their throttle cable? I plan on running new...
