Does anyone still build Cafe Racers or is it not fashionable anymore?

Thanks for the replies. I thought that the scene had changed - glad in a way - sad in another. As long people keep on building interesting bikes out of all sorts then that is great! Personally, I have changed my bars from clip-ons, just makes long rides more enjoyable and I can put the...

Does anyone still build Cafe Racers or is it not fashionable anymore?

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone still build Cafe Racers or is it not fashionable anymore? A lot of the posts on here are quite old? Maybe people have built their bikes and no longer need to post stuff (myself included!) or it has just no longer a phenomenon? What do you lot think?

Suzuki GS Cafe Racer Collective! Share knowledge.. ask build questions!

Here's mine. Done extensive mods, mostly to make it look more vintage, not to make it faster. First pic is as I picked it up, second as it stood last summer, done a few more mods since then.

    GT185 Suzuki build

I had a GT200X5 and put AM26 tyres on, they were sweet, hard wearing and plenty of grip. A good recommendation.

    '78 GS750 Suzuki brat/cafe "Fawkes"

Hi, enjoying your build thread. You have a question about wheels and discs. I have a front wheel from a '71 GT550 on the front of my '78 GS - WITH DUEL DISKS. The bolt holes are already there under the plastic cover, I have had this set up for more than a year with no probs! Can't wait to see...

1980 Suzuki GS850 Cafe Racer Project

If you are going to cut the front fender, make sure you leave enough at the bad so that the engine doesn't get covered in all sorts of road crap like mine does! Good call Caferay!

    GS850 G - Cafe Racer

Who says it is the wrong bike? Are you making it quicker by reducing its weight, improving the engine and making it more aerodynamic? Then it fits the original ethos of what a 'café racer' was and is. Do you like how it looks? Then that is what matters! It is your machine, with your style. I...

Hi Zoorocker, the gauge is from a Suzuki GZ125 marauder. Maybe it is a little large for some tastes. The smaller ones do look neater, I agree, but I quite like the big clocks they had on the Vincent Black Shadow bikes. More pix of my yoke/key attached...

Bracket and new position, sorry for the cr@p photos I will put some better ones up when I have a front brake and can roll the bike out the garage.

    Suzuki GS550E '78

OK, I wasn't happy with the way the top yoke looked, so whilst the fork seals where being replaced I did some work on it. I moved the ignition key by extending the wiring and fabbing a bracket to fix the ignition and attach the horn to the same bracket. There is a mounting point underneath the...

    Suzuki GS550E '78

Thanks Andrew. Spokes were a bit of a pain really, but I do prefer the look. The back was the main problem, had to put a bracket under the swing arm, ditch the hydraulic brake and fab up some bracing for the torque arm. Took a bit of fettling to get the wheel spacers right too. The master...

1980 Suzuki GS850 Cafe Racer Project

LOVE IT! I don't like bikes that are too polished and clean, the ageing and pitting is part of the character of the machine, embrace it! Clubmans look great in black, really suits the look you are going for. Seat looks a little uncomfortable, but it is a popular mod the the GS and looks good...
