So my buddy bought a Triumph chopper/bobber roller and the PO used a stock CB550 tree/fork/wheel setup in front and it's actually pretty cool as it is. He's looking to run a 21" (or larger) front wheel with no front brake and I suppose someone out there has chopped/bobbed a CB550 or knows what...
Picked it up on Craigslist locally, wasnt running properly, looked ridiculous, figured I'd do a few things to it to get it up and running for the rest of the season then I'll probably do a ground up on it over the winter. Here it is in the meantime...

I've been told my 76 CB550 is supposed to be a bike that uses Tube Type tires... but the tires that are on the bike now say Tubeless. I am assuming they ARE tubeless type tires with a tube inside? The front is a 100/90-19 Dunlop Gold Seal and the rear is a Dunlop also (not a gold seal) 110/90-18...
I would love to find one int my color first before I bought a different color part to paint... any luck?
(pic for color only... I need the opposite side pictured)
As stated, bike is a 1976 Honda CB550K w/ around 12k miles. Battery isnt OLD old but not new. Water level is good.
I bought the bike from a guy who said he "charged the battery and it fires right up". It did... for about 2 days... then it wouldnt restart with the electric push button starter...
The bike is a 76 CB550K.
It ran lovely at idle (idling smooth and revving wonderfully) before I took it apart... but stumbled at anything more than 1/8 throttle under load (i.e., me riding it)... so I pulled the carbs to do a simple clean and rebuild. While the carbs were torn down and at the...
I have the chance to buy this but not sure if its worth paying $2000 if I'm not planning on keeping it all original? Should I keep it all original? Its all near mint condition... paint, chrome, wiring looms, plastics, seat, engine finish, etc.. What would Brian Boitano do?
I cant see much more than a sample image whenever I look for rearsets on a CB550 and I have talked to Ed at Omars about the Raasks and the consensus is theyre pretty high mounted. I have a 76 CB550K with a set of clubmans and obviously I need a set of rearsets on the bike for a better riders...
Hey everyone... great place you've got here. I'm all over it.
I'm 34 in Baltimore, MD... I've had a couple bikes in my life. This is the first "old" bike I have intended to build into a cafe. Past bikes were a 94 GSX-R 750 and the last bike I had was a 2000 Moto Guzzi V11 Sport. I loved that...
I've pulled my carb set off and brought them inside to start to dismantle them, clean them and get ready for rebuild kits. The bike was running ok at idle and revving up not under any load, however, under load (standard riding), the engine would sputter and kinda fall on its face. Besides...
Hello everyone. This is my first post here. Great site! I'm fairly new to the "cafe" culture but not new to bikes... previously owned/ridden are a 94 GSX-R 750 and a 2000 MotoGuzzi V11 Sport. My newest bike is a 1976 CB550 which I plan to mildly mod and ride until winter then tear down and build...
