First try running with rerouting the stocks like Carnivorous said, worked fine for me, threw a set on on 78 kz 400 and worked just fine, took a little putzin around for routing them but a lot easier then switching them out.

Had similar experience avon tires too, the bead was uneven, was more hop if anything. brought it back to who I had mounted them they corrected it, believe they ended up having to use a bigger tube and pump a ton of pressure into it to get the bead to seat proper / evenly. been fine since put...

I use one, never a issue, usually a very slight amount of play from the snap button alignment slots, not sure why it would be so loose unless a button broke or its not snapped on properly ? maybe remove it and snap it back on ?

How about notching out one or maybe two strips on the steel top so you have room to slide clamps up to the angle.
