    CX500 Electric water pump?

Well, it didn't pan out. I ended up leaving the bike with a friend of mine in Sacramento right before he had his first kid. Now after letting it sit since December of '09 he has just gotten it running as "well" as when I left it with him. So he's now starting to address the overheating issue...

    CX500 Electric water pump?

Well I took my bike to a mechanic two months ago (because I live in an apartment with no garage) and they don't want to change it because they don't think the bike is worth the expense. So I have to get the bike home somehow, then pull the engine and replace the pump outside on the street. I'll...

    CX500 Electric water pump?

I definitely agree with the "mechanical gremlins" remark, but I've read too much about "some copper washer or grommet" getting welded in place because it spins with the cam and frictions against the housing. Yeah, I will probably go with replacing it with stock, just seeing if there were any...

    CX500 Electric water pump?

Thanks again! Yes you do have to pull the motor, that's kindof why I was thinking if I have to go through that much trouble, I'd like to do something cool with it.

    CX500 Electric water pump?

Thanks! Any suggestions on places to look for that? I found some places that sell engine compartment bilge pumps for "watercraft motorcycles" which are really just jet-skis. Do you know of any manufacturers or race teams that have done it?

    CX500 Electric water pump?

I have a 1979 CX 500 that is having water pump troubles. I know there are after-market electric water pumps you can install on Chevy small block engines (like these: http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=electric%20water%20pump&dds=1 ) I was wondering if there would be some way to rig an...

    Reregistering a 77'

Easy if you don't. In California you just need to take it to the CHP (Highway Patrol) and have them inspect it. They give you some signed form, then you get a new pink-slip for it from the DMV when you register it with the form CHP gives you.

    Hypothetical sneaky legal question (ownership/registration)

At one time my room-mate and I had 5 motorcycles between the two of us and I always kept my CB550 registered. Then whatever bike I needed to test-ride would become a 1978 CB 550 even if it did appear to be styled after a 1985 Honda Spree 50. What the cops look for is a little license plate and...

    registering in california

A friend of mine found an old bike on some acreage his Dad owned in Madera County, he didn't want to bother with the reg so he gave it to me. I took it to the DMV with nothing but a hand written note from my friend to me that it was a gift (which shouldn't matter because he wasn't the registered...

    NORCAL Folks

Yeah, that's what I figure. Its only a machine. It does have a thermostat (at least its supposed to). When I brought it to them, they told me there wasn't one in the bike. It used to take ~15 minutes to overheat, now they tell me it overheats going around the block. I spoke with Dave (from...

    cb500 jetting question????

I have a '78 CB 550K (550 Four). The engine/carbs/exhaust are all stock except for the pods I added. I got the bike as 2 boxes of parts and have been slowly putting it back together for the past few years. My bike is almost 100% now but it doesn't run w/o the choke pulled, so I'm pretty sure I...

    NORCAL Folks

I too live in SF. I'd gladly ride with you if my bike ever runs again. I took my '79 CX500 to Dave at O'Hanlon's a month-and-a-half ago because it would overheat halfway through my ride to work (from Ocean Beach to downtown). He's told me he's done with the bike, it's beaten him and he doesn't...
