    Scratches in Fork Lowers

I picked up a set of used fork lowers for my rd400 that were in pretty bad shape. Cleaned them up nice, but the inside slider has quite a few scratches. As long as the fork tubes are good should this cause any problems?

    New look for the RD400

Didn't read this right the first time I replied. Sprockets are from sprocketspecialists.com. Chain is a DID erv3, use to have the non oring ert2 chain but that stretched like butter. Economy Cycles sells the spacers for the 520 conversion.

    New look for the RD400

I did the 520 conversion by adding two wheel spacers in the rear, and two lock washers on the front. Went up one tooth in the back, so 17x39. Some people drop the front to the 16, but I ride a lot of freeway.

    New look for the RD400

Yeah I love them, don't think you can get a better street tire for the price. The front tire pictured is a 100/90 which they discontinued, so I have a 90/90 ready to go on with the new brake, I'll let you know how it goes.

    New look for the RD400

Thanks guys! No switch switch gear(if you're referring to the kill switch and controls). I put a toggle switch in the headlight bucket for the lights and drilled a hole in the side of the bucket to run the key housing through. I like just having a key because with the kill switch I would forget...

    New look for the RD400

Thanks for all the kind words. I've had this bike for some time and put a lot of sweat, love and tears into it and I couldn't be happier with her. Got the itch to tinker some more, so she is back on the stand and I should have some updated photos in two weeks.

    The Stache's '76 RD400

Re: '76 RD400c -- 2smoker "Ginger" Looking good stache! You figure out the fuel leaks? I'm 6' tall and I like the bump of the pad to start right at the shock mount. Gives a little room to slide back and tuck for high speeds. I know someone who had a body shop match the chappy red and it was...

My Suzi T500 Project *It's Alive Video*

Re: My Suzi T500 Project (The Build Up Begins!) I can't wait to see this, it's coming together so nice. Good work John. I've used Mop n Glow and it works really well.

    The Stache's '76 RD400

Re: '76 RD400c -- 2smoker "Ginger" I just know it works for me and was recommended by a trusted two stroke mechanic. Don't think it interacts with the gas just keeps the brass pressed all the way down. You sure it's not coming out of the fuel line? I had fuel leaks with 1/4" (stock size) line...

    The Stache's '76 RD400

Re: '76 RD400c -- 2smoker "Ginger" When the nipples on my carb came loose I pulled them out coated them in red lock tight, then pressed in and let dry. Always worked for me. My carb leaked the same way through the gasket. Mine were warped from being over torqued over the years. I tried a new...

    The Stache's '76 RD400

Re: '76 RD400c -- 2smoker "Ginger" Sorry if I offended you Kop. I'm no expert, but love two strokes and have a well running RD400c which I have tuned through many variations successfully. Still I'm only an enthusiast passing info that has worked for me, so take it with a grain of salt. I...

Re: '76 RD400c -- 2smoker DG's are a good bang for the buck pipes. They're an improvement over stock, but in my experience they do not compare to other pipes. The MC pipes are defiantly a higher rpm pipe but they are not any slower than the DGs down low, they just kick you in the pants at 6k. I...

    RD400 Never Ending Build

Thanks Suthern! On a two stroke you cut the heads to adjust compression and squish band. Here is a more detailed explanation if you're interested: http://home.earthlink.net/~scloughn/id16.html

How can I get these disk brakes working again?

Rebuild the calipers! Mixes XS has seals and stainless steel pistons. Getting the old pistons out can be a challenge. I was able to hook a rubber tube up to the bleeder valve and pump them out with a bike pump. You can also pump them out with a grease gun, just be carful they come out like a...
