    1966 Yamaha YL1 "Roadrunner"

I'm back. Well at last I am getting back into this little project, I've been busy doing some mods to my TU250, the latest of which was adapting a Truimph T120 peashooter exhaust to it. Since its the bike I ride the most, it's been getting most of my spare time lately. Enough excuses, I've been...

    74 XS650 Brat-Racer

Just stumbled across this and went through the entire build so far. Great job man! Your doing a fantastic job while keeping the costs down. I have a lot of respect for people who can turn out something like this without having to pay someone else to build you a "Trailer Queen". This has inspired...

    1980 CB650 Brat/Bobber/Tracker? - First Bike, First Build

Haha - I laughed out loud when I read the part about the flashlight and fluorescent bulbs. I have (well had) a GPS that met a similar fate with a hammer after it got me lost and pissed me off. Take a deep breath, have a beer, and get back at it. She will be worth it.

Yeah the build has been on hold due to the crappy cold winter weather here. Just have not felt like freezing my butt off in the garage lol. Things have been warming up and I'll get back into it soon. Funny I was just thinking I've got to get this project restarted then saw your post...

A few quick updates. The holidays consumed all my time and the weather has turned here (cold) and I'm kinda wishing I'd moved the bike into the basement to work on before my yard was under a foot of snow. Just too damm cold in the garage (really need to get a 220V electric heater put in there...

So this assembly arrived today from Asia, and guess what. It's about 90% like the one on mine, and 10% something different. The way the throttle assembly is captivated is completely different so I can't use it. It IS a NOS Yamaha part but its not the same as the one on this bike. (Insert 4...

So I've been looking at a variety of off the shelf cafe seats and really have not seen anything that will "fit" this bike. Most are going too look too big. I could get a shop to do something with the stock pan or I could make my own seat. That's sort of where I'm leaning. And in my basement I...

Thanks, winters on its way here too. Probably not much riding time left. But at least this gives me something to do over the long cold winter.

Got the windscreen back. It looks pretty good. But I think it needs a little something to set it off, so... Once the adhesive sets up I'll take the tape off and mount it and post a pic of the finished flyscreen.

One of the "repairs" that was done to the bike at some point was something I discovered when removing the throttle off of the handlebars. One of the metric screws had fallen out, and the PO decided that a large wood screw would make a perfect replacement. This left the original threads in the...

Ended up dropping off the Lexan at that shop I found. Turns out the guy has made several custom windshields for various bikes so I thought I'd give him a try. Should be ready next week sometime. Now I have to start thinking about the seat. What to do. I'm leaning towards a cafe type seat but...

Again time seems to be my enemy lately. I did modify some fender washers to add some strength to the mounting points on the number plate. I then sandwiched the number plate between two large rubber washers and the fender washers. Should withstand any speed this bike is capable of. I also picked...

    1966 Yamaha YL1 "Roadrunner"

I've been on the road a lot lately but got home last night and started getting the number plate mounted for some test fitting. I think it turned out pretty good. Got to cut the Lexan for the screen and make a mounting bracket next. This photo is a little deceptive because of the angle and it...

Have a look at this and let me know what you think before I drill holes. Ever since I saw Noddy78's "CB350 Steampunk Frankenstein Cafe thing called Isabel" build, I have been dying to use a little brass accent(s) on this project. I have to say, I've never been a big fan of the steampunk style...

The NOS manifold was a ebay find. It is an NOS OEM one that was still in the Yamaha package. Funny enough, the guy who had it was about 50 miles from my house. It cost me about $70.00 though. Not cheap but what are you gonna do. It's a pretty specialized part. You have to watch, you will see one...

Built an adapter out of pipe to mate the new air filter with the NOS original Y-manifold. Here is a photo showing the original setup and the new one.
