Finally sorted the rear gs1000 spoked wheel.
Recap...
I found a gs1000 wheel on ebay. Badly listed. Rim was scratched up badly with what looked like 100 grit or something! Spokes were rotten. Tyre was useless but I was gonna fit a new tyre anyway.
Spent hours/days sanding the chrome rim with...
Thanks! The whole bike was that colour when I bought it. I'm not that keen on it really! Ha! I was thinking gloss grey frame with gloss navy blue tank and seat unit. Maybe a winter project.
Yeah the rear gs1000 wheel I found is spoked with disc. So I can still run the rear disc and not need to...
The rear gs1000 spoked wheel needs new bearings to go in. The standard gs1000 has a 20mm axle. My Gs550 has a 17mm axle.
I thought about converting to the 20mm axel (I've got the 20mm axle, spacers and rear caliper bracket that all came with the set of wheels i bought locally for £15 - I was...
I fitted the gt750 '74 spoked front wheel today. It slotted straight in with no modifications from the standard alloy/mag gs550 wheel :D Same size bearings/axle. Same width hub.
Even more suprising was that the calipers fit fine too! I had read that I'd need gs1000 calipers to clear the spokes...
Sounds like a fuel tap issue. Does your tap work by taking vacuum off somewhere to open the tap while in the "on" position? Could be leaking vacuum so not opening tap fully. Or a faulty tap seal. There's a diaphram in the tap that might be leaking.
The prime position is just opening the tap...
I'll add some pics of the switches at the weekend.
My current project is converting to spoked wheels... now i finally sprayed my wheels!
I found a gs1000 rear wheel with rear disc brake. So I don't have to convert to drum brake. I'd rather keep my new drilled disc! Found on eBay, the seller had...
I've now wired up new switches. Finally getting rid of the cheap plastic switch gear on the left.
I found momentary buttons that are part of the brake/clutch lever bracket. These are for horn and starter. Then two sets of two on-off buttons for indicators, headlight and high beam.
So the halo...
I've added very small black brake reservoirs. I had an issue with the old reservoir hoses sweating. So I made sure I got good quality hose. I went for clear hose to act like a window because the mini reservoirs don't have windows.
I've already fitted modern levers and led bits n bobs. So I decided to go for a more modern twist all round. I fitted an halo / projector headlight in a 5.75" headlight shell. Painted satin black with left-over wheel spray.
I then fitted RFY shocks. These are a massive improvement over the tired...
Not updated this post for a while. I've done a few things.
This year I cleaned up my discs. Stripped the paint off.
Sprayed my wheels satin black.
Then just as I'd finished that, someone was selling some gs550 wheels locally for £15 the set... and they had the drilled discs I've been wanting for...
A few more changes since last posted...
Finally cut the old bar mounts off the yoke and took the paint off.
Fiddled about with the heights of the headlight and bars to create the right lines.
I've taken the rev clock off now coz the cable snapped. And then I decided I liked the single clock look...
Sorry I've not checked my post for ages! Yeah I guess that's the standard choke on mine. It was missing the choke cable all together when I bought it. It's just fed through the yoke and then under the tank area to the choke. But you've probably not been waiting for my answer!!! :D
What bike are you currently working on (that you said are difficult to café)? The CX500? They're tricky because of the frame shape and radiator. Well that's my opinion anyway. I've never owned one! I think good ones look awesome, but most look bad.
Thanks for your interest. Trust me, the plate bracket is flimsy! It will bend before the plate puts enough pressure on me to puncture through Kevlar jeans and skin. I wear protective clothing, not like a lot of Americans I see wearing shorts, trainers and a shirt, with no gloves. I know it's hot...
Then came new levers inc master cylinder and reservoirs. No more leaky master cylinder and spongy brakes! :D
And new switch gear.
I wired up the lights to the ignition switch, and used a switch relay so the light on/off switch does the high/low beam switching. I still have to mount the starter...
Then I tackled the electrics to open out the triangle...
I made a template tray out of cardboard. Then cut a piece of aluminium and bent it to shape...
