    '87 Honda NSR250 'ELF Special'

Sweet KX500! I would never have the skill to ride something like that. "elf" is "ELF lubricants" makers of oils and such. It's a French company so it could mean something, or just be a made up French name. Actually it's just a brand now of another big oil company. They used to sponsor various...

    2 stroke engine problems..

If you don't have starting fluid, put a dash of raw fuel down the spark plug hole. Also make sure you're using the choke.

Well if you like it, go for it! With normal road use cranks generally last 30-40000 km. Depends how well the bike is maintained, and how hard it is ridden. I've seen NSR's for sale with 50000+ km and I don't think the cranks have been done. Pistons and rings should last 10000 km with normal...

Yeah the centre seal is an odd size. I've been doing a bit of research today, it seems you can have a sleeve made to press over the crank centre to bring the inner dimension to a more common size. But it also seems there are a couple of places who are supplying specially made replacement seals.

Seems a little steep for a 16. I'm assuming you are in Australia? If prices over there are similar to NZ, you could probably pick up a decent MC21 for that. All NSR's are hard for parts by the way, but the 16 is the worst. Center crank seals are somewhat prone to failure, and the seal is...

No updates, but I've still got it and riding it regularly. The riding weather is too good at the moment to be working on bikes.

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

The angle of that seat is simply ridiculous. You'd just be constantly sliding forward and crushing your nuts.

Carbs are probably out of sync I have no idea, I just hastily threw a bunch of parts on when I got home from work to see if I could get it started. Couple of new issues have come up since starting it. Leaking petcock, and air leak at the check valve of one oil line. Glad you enjoyed the little...

Engine nube - need CB350 help

Hey welcome to DTT. Here are some answers I can give you: 1) De-greaser and a pressure wash will clean your engine parts. It wont remove any corrosion though. To remove corrosion they will need to be blasted or scrubbed with a scotchbrite or fine sandpaper. 2) Shouldn't be necessary (provided...

Threw a spare NSR front rim on the rear so I can wheel this thing around. Haven't got around to truing the re-spoked rim yet. I may try find a friendly local to do it on the cheap. Though it could be worthwile building myself a truing stand, and doing it myself. I have access to DTI's. I'm also...

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

I know this isn't craigslist, but I have to share this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/classic-vintage/auction-668794216.htm Six and a half grand! It's one thing to build a hideous bike, but to think it's worth that much is another.

    Dremel Madness

I've got a shitty RYOBI dremel style tool that broke after just a few hours use. Look into an electric die grinder, rather than the more home DIY oriented dremel tools. Any industrial quality tool should see many years of faithful service.

Stripped off as much of the old frame paint as I could. Then hit it with some hydrochloric acid, followed by oven cleaner to neutralise the acid and clean out any greasy bits trapped in corners. Then lots of water to rinse, and a scrub with some some synthetic steel wool to clean off the flash...
