Re: 1975 Suzuki T500 Cafe build Tons of potential there. Can't wait for your parts to all come in and we can watch it start taking shape. I love the look of the front forks with the fork boots. I hope you plan on keeping them that way. Makes for a cool retro cafe look

I am getting ready to drop the engine, and strip the rest of the way down to the bare frame. I will take a few pics and post in tomorrow. I...

New member and first cafe build

Im really diggin this build, and that tank has really caught my eye. I saw a tank like that recently on ebay, but was unsure exactly what it was. After seeing what you are doing with yours, I am gonna start investigating further. Those loops on the frame look like they will work perfectly with...

Great info Surf. Thanks. I definately will drop the engine and take the airbox out without damaging it. I am always assuming I might have to use parts again that I take off. I will definately get help when I put the pods on if it doesn't want to run right. I recently signed up on xjbikes.com and...

It looks like a bfh is the answer! :D I have tried every angle i can think of with the engine still in place and no luck. I am going to forget about it for now. My next plan is to put the freshly cleaned carbs back in and put a battery in it this weekend and see if I can get her to run. If I am...

    AB's 81 XJ 550 Maxim

The airbox is widest towards the front where it attaches to the carbs. The box is actually wider than the frame rails preventing it from moving backwards at all. The more I think about it today, I think it might come forward pretty easily once the engine is removed. I am gonna take another look...

    AB's 81 XJ 550 Maxim

I had a few hours and was able to start pulling all of the pieces and parts off the bike. First, I turned the engine over to verify that nothing was frozen. Preliminarily, it looks like all is sound mechanically. I removed the carbs, and they look surprisingly good, with only a minimal amount of...

    turn signals? whats your opinion...

Hey guitargeek... Im diggin your taillight setup. They are way brighter than I was expecting them to be. If i recall correctly, I think I remember reading somewhere that those are off of a school bus or a big rig or something like that?

    narrow case duc build

I sure am happy to be able to follow this build. I have a Ducati single packed away in the garage, but didn't have the guts to tackle that project as my "first" complete build. I am starting a 550 Yamaha instead, but hopefully, after watching yours come together, I will be able to do my Ducati...

    AB's 81 XJ 550 Maxim

I bought this bike from an old man who rode it around town up until the time that the clutch started slipping. Instead of having someone, take a look at the clutch and fix it, he parked it in his barn. When the registration came due the following year, he went ahead and filed for a non-op. He...

Well, here goes nothin! Im a long time rider, but this will be my first true build! I have been lurking around here for the last 6 months and receiving tons of inspiration! I have a Ducati 250 at home in boxes, that I have had tucked away for years, but I figured for my first build, I would...

    81 XJ 550 Maxim

So I took a few pics of my 550 project. This is just the way it came out of the barn. I made sure not to wipe any of the dirt off. I wanted a visual of where this all started. Now, the fun begins! Im gonna move this over to the "big arse projects" page to begin the transformation. Look for...
