Time to Contribute! RD350 Cafe Build

Been riding a few months now - all is well! Still want to mess with brakes this winter, but just enjoying it for now.

Thanks JP For reference the rear axle travels 2 7/8in before shocks hit their bump stops. At that point there is still 1/2in frame/tire clearance. They are 14.5in overall.

Maybe I am still missing the point. What I was trying to say was there is plenty of room to slacken the chain (slide the rear axle forward), such that the chain does not bind or pull as the swingarm travels through its arc or contact the frame/swingarm. If the appropriate tension per the diagram...

What do you recommend for an aftermarket single disc/caliper/master combo?

The calipers and pistons are aluminum, so with the extra disc and drilled only slightly heavier than stock. But I may be going that route anyway. Also have the stock steel fender, it just wasn't painted yet when I took the picture. Thanks teazer!

I will double check. The chain doesn't need to be that tight for fit. I need to space out the left pipe a bit with some washers, but the swingarm and frame clearance is sufficient with a 17 tooth front sprocket (rear is 47).

haha @xb: just the adjusters on the back of the swingarm. there's about an inch of play in the chain up/down.

    rd350 '73 front wheel assembly - I f'd up.

to be honest, I work on a farm and we always pack bearings by hand and any space that would other wise be vacant. even sealed bearings we try to work as much into them as possible. if there's grease in there, there's not water/moisture or dust/debris.

thanks for the help guys. i'll put it back in next time i replace, for the time being it stays put from the grease.

    rd350 '73 front wheel assembly - I f'd up.

That can't be...the center spacer doesn't slip through the bearings, it has to go in first. And when bearings are pressed in is in direct contact with the inner races. The flange spacer fits over this center spacer and appears to be only for keeping the center spacer aligned when the axle is...

    rd350 '73 front wheel assembly - I f'd up.

I did not forget the front hub center spacer before pressing in new bearings...but I did forget the flange spacer that slides over the center spacer. Can I get by without it? Would love not having to drive new bearings out. I packed the hub with grease and the spacer is aligned, axle fits fine...

Haven't given up, still making slow but steady progress. List of things done lately include: - finishing seat mount/battery box - wheels laced, tightened trued and tires mounted. (i took a stab a lacing and it was very doable, but took them to a shop for tighten and true and tire mount and...

@mike: I ended up having CMR Racing Products make them, they had already done a few so it was simple to explain what I wanted, and the US/Can exchange rate was favorable, so that helped. Today's progress: Finished attaching the rear gas tank mount and the front seat mount, also extended the...

Rear subrframe question. Everyone seems to be tying their upper frame rails together with bent seat hoops. 1. Are there any functional reasons why I can't just make a boxed subframe from 1 inch round stock? It's not going to be visible, just need it to be structurally sound and support the...
