    Le Mans IV from Aus

Hi Spotty I'm in Canberra. I know of a few Guzzi specialists around so I should be right with the harder tasks, but will probably try and gets the electrics done myself soon. It's a good excuse to buy a Dynatek ignition anyway.

    Le Mans IV from Aus

Hi all, I have been absent for a while as I had sold my last build (http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=43587.0) and decided to go without a bike for a while. Well that idea didn't last very long and was offered a deal on an 88' Moto Guzzi Le Mans IV for the low price of $600. The...

Hi all, So it's been a while. Sold the old girl for a bit over $3k and have been bike-less for a while. That was until today when I just purchased an old 88' Le Mans IV! I've been wanting a Moto Guzzi for years and it's finally here. I'll start a new thread as soon as I start the rebuild. The...

Hi all, So the time has come and the ol'project is finally gone...sold. Thanks to the many who have helped along the way and who continue to make this forum and others a great source of information, inspiration and fun. I have had fun with the old bike and hopefully the next owner will continue...

Thanks Alpha. I've made some adjustments but still the same result - the left cylinder is blowing cold and smokey. I think the Ignitor might have friend or be on its way out?

    gs450 project from Aus

Hi all, So the build is back up and running. I made a complete new wiring harness, although the indicators arn't connect as yet. First start up yesterday but the left carb overflowed - cleaned the bowls and should be good now. For those that know - how far back do I turn the main jets in the...

Been a while away but I'll try and be a bit more regular on here. I have decided to put the GS450 back together then sell it and have already bought a Honda Blackbird which goes well. Thanks for the comments and offers to help. I seem to have forgotten alot about the 450 so I'm sure I'll be...

    gs450 project from Aus

Hi all, Ended up getting a welder with access to a MIG to do some welds and the rear mounts are a bit cleaner now. I'm going to get the frame blasted soon and get a filler that can withstand powdercoating. Will this go on after the blasting but before the zinc paint they use after they blast?

That's true Pete, have seen them for $250 or so, plus the $50 odd for delivery. Not too bad really. The bike is currently in a hundred, actually probably less, more like 30 pieces. Have welded the rearset mounts, but that tubing is so hard to weld with an arc welder! I keep blowing holes in...

Thanks fellas, it seems I should really just bite the bullet and get the ignition. I'll try and save up for it. I have bought myself some time now as the bike is completely disassembled again! That's right, every piece has been taken off and now have a plain old frame. Reason being is that I'm...

All hands on deck, help needed lol. I have had a bit of fun drawing a wiring diagram, but as you can see it's not finished. I want to keep it as simple as possible but still have indicators for example. If anyone out there is electrically minded please feel free to edit I would appreciate the...

BTW - where did you get that seat from? It looks great!

The tank height was annoying me too. It now follows the same lines as the frame, without stepping down the seat height too out of whack. Those carbs look great! You got some great things planned, I'll be watching with great interest. Thanks again for the compliments, it's come a fair way...and...

Yeh good idea for the rearsets I've been looking at the exact same ones for ages. My bike's had K&N since I got it and idled fine, now that I've cleaned them the bike wants to run quicker. There's even slack on the throttle so I can't set it to idle any lower on the cable or the idle screw. I...

Thanks for your comments and photos. Interesting to know that the Dynatek fixed the problems. It all makes sense as I have spark but it's just so weak. It also looks the part too. I'm in two minds as to whether I will keep this old beast now that its running again and back together. Have my...

    gs450 project from Aus

Hi Pete, Yeh I figured it might be the ignitor, however I took it for a run today now that I have brakes and it ran well. Idles way too high even with idle screw on minimum. Left pipe still not getting as hot as the right but it is kicking better every cycle with equal force as the other. Blows...

    gs450 project from Aus

hi Rich, just tried two new plugs and same prob. Starts up so quick now and idles really well but there is just no kick in the left side muffler or any heat. I pulled off the vacuum line and that makes it idle higher and there's an even amount of fuel in both bowls. It could be there's an air...

I now have brakes. Turned out to be the MC which strangely wasn't that old. Anyway the new one is in, although being a small bore size it's not that powerful, but hopefully good enough. Have this weird prob with the left cylinder. Have cleaned carbs twice now and bike sounds good. Small issue...

Hi mate, I have 100/90-18 on front and 110/90-18 on back. So 18's back and front. Wouldn't mind a larger rear tyre but it still has plenty of tread left. Rich, too bad about the brakes. I'll keep looking at options.

Plenty of info there thanks guys. So far the stator and R/R are okay so I'll go along with that for now. Prob just the carbs soon. I know I'm asking a lot of questions but, speaking of interchangeability, does the GS500 front brake calliper and rotor fit on the 450 forks? Thanks fellas it's...
