1980 GS450 Codename: Athena(for now) Okay little bit of a bitter sweet update for the day. I finally got the petcock in the mail. Got it installed and she started up perfectly. I've got a little bit of a lean situation when first started up but it works itself out when warm. Ill be adjusting...

    CV carbs

A friend of mine has a cb450 that he put filters on and chopped the exhaust. He got a 6sigma kit with jets and 'instructions' on what to do(basically a bunch of internet links). I dont really know if he's gonna follow through with all of it.. Anyways I wouldn't personally go this far without...

Thread about threads oil filter and oil plug(pics included)

The news about the studs is perfect! I can get everything tomorrow! Two clarifications so I dont want to shoot myself in the next 24 hours. The stud is threaded normally not reverse? and re installation should just go opposite of install correct? As far as the drain plug goes...I'd really...

Its just now finally running and I go to change the oil and filter and when I went to reinstall everything I realized not only that the oil drain plug was stripped(not too worried about that one)...

    gs450 project from Aus

Loving what you've done so far! Keep up the great work! And I don't know if you've checked the petcock for the wonky running problem. But mine was feeding gas into the left carb through the vacuum line! Edit: jussst kidding seems I missed something inbetween you saying it was running better and...

    CV carbs

Im not familiar with your carbs so i dont know if yours is adjustable but I've done a lot of reading about my cv mikuni's. i was having some bogging issues that I finally figured out was my petcock but also the midrange is controlled by the needles in most carbs, not the jets. Refer to this: I...

    1980 GS450 Athena

1980 GS450 Codename: Athena(for now) My plans for the near future include getting her running stock to get registered and to rule out PO lack of maintenance. Plus I don't want to worry about random problems while Im jetting. K&N on the way as well as oil filter. Gonna change the oil which...

    1980 GS450 Athena

I picked up my bike a couple weeks ago and have been troubleshooting and fixing/learning as I go. Started off with a new battery. Checked the stator and regulator. All within spec and in working order to the best of my knowledge and she ran okay for a little while but rpms would go up and down...

    Hello from Long Beach, CA

GS450 Codename Athena (for now) Soooo! I went ahead and pulled the carbs and gave them a thorough cleaning. Ordered the Oring intake boot kit from cycleorings. Had to refresh the velocity stack things in the airbox with silicone spray. FINALLY got everything in the right place, took...

    Hello from Long Beach, CA

So, shes running and the charging system checked out fine. But now its back to the drawing and cleaning board. Engine is surging in neutral and through out the throttle range. Also seems to be sticking or something when I pull up to stop signs. Like 3-5k on the tach. Any advice would be...

    Hello from Long Beach, CA

Gonna get her running first and foremost. Then registered for California, and THEN theres a lot of stuff I want to do. Right now my main question Im trying to answer for myself is whether I want to cut up and de-tab a bike that is right near pristine. OR try and find something a little bigger 8]

    GS450 Engine Emblem Delete

I hate the fact that the Suzuki emblem on my bike is a sticker. I saw while reading SOMEONES build a picture of one where the sticker was removed and the lip was sanded down and polished to a mirror finish....Now I can't find the picture or post for the life of me! Someone please help! haha

    Hello from Long Beach, CA

Thanks for the offer mike. I already got one that I ordered from parts unlimited on the way. Hopefully thats all for right now and I can start riding soon. Had to button up a few loose wires all through the bike and sorted out a few ground wires that I didn't like.
