Agree with this , I learned to ride on a 50 cc Honda then a 125 Honda - a bigger bike might well have meant faster/nastier accidents !
To some extent a low powered bike makes you a better rider - you don't have the power to let speed go to waste ! ;)
Not sure there is a "right" answer to this ...
Digging around in my garage turned up a GS500 swingingarm that seems to have a 22mm od spacer................. should have looked before ordering the new one - never mind will get the micrometer out and compare the sizes when I get it .
Me too ! At this point I'm guessing its the spacer/inner race that's the problem as more likely than the bearings themselves - of course if I had measured it at the time I would know ........... ::) Being Chinese made adds that extra bit of excitement ;)
Thanks for the reply - I fully understand how the bearings should work and my first try was to shim the ends of the spacer/inner race as I also thought end play was the likely culprit here but it seems to be the inner race/spacer is simply under size for the needle roller bearing :( That was...
No they were like it from new - checking the spacer in the bearing I have quite a lot of "slop" - hope mine is an undersized spacer and the replacement I have ordered will be better . If its not better with the new one I'll either use it as a pattern to turn up a replacement or maybe get it hard...
Suppose I could make/get made some replacement bushes but the needle rollers should be better really - have ordered a new spacer and will measure that up to see if its any bigger and go from there .
Anyone else have more sideways play in their swingingarm than they would like ?
Even with mine done up FT there is still a mm or more of play at the wheel spindle end of the swingingarm .
I took it all apart and it seems to me the the spacer is undersize for the needle roller bearing - might...
Are these engines really 250s or are they 230s - like the CCM CXR230 etc ? - a lot give the cc as 250 cc then bore and stroke dimensions that give 230 cc ! >:(
FWIW I enjoy the free revving relatively smooth 125 engine - would be good to get more BHP from it but if I want a big engined bike I...
Re: New Rider, New Ace
Hi Adam and welcome along , I recognise your research and thought that went into your purchase ;) - Ebay was responsible for my spur of the moment purchase of an Ace too ! I am yet another oldie but the Ace is really great fun without the need ( or chance!) to go fast -...
Not sure anyone will have a "genuine" Skyteam figure - including Skyteam ! ;)
Never used a spoke torque wrench but should think 30/40 ft - lbs way too much - maybe 30-40 in - lbs ??
Using a torque wrench on a Chinese bike is not always a good plan IMO - hard to get manufacturer torque figures...
Yep , I've got the same one , not much packing in there & after one ride there was hardly any fibreglass left in it .
I repacked with as much fibre as I could but it did not quieten things down that much , in the end I put a 25mm tube welded to a plate in the end to reduce the outlet diameter...
Faster than mine then ! ;) I am about 90kg but 2M tall which probably slows things down a bit as I cannot get out of the wind !
Mine has only done about 200KM - have spent more time meddling with it than riding .....
For a bike that only claims a 52mph top speed, 66mph is good going :D
What sort of top speed are you getting now ? I put a 16T front sprocket on mine without even riding it with a 15T , mine is reluctant to rev much over 8000rpm (on the Kege anyway!) but I get a GPS top speed of exactly 100kmh on the flat , maybe some more miles will up that a bit ? Mine is...
And a 1977 one with metallic blue tank please - just like the one I bought brand new................. 8) Hongdou did a XL125S copy so a K3 should be fine .
Currently the motorcycle MoT does not included exhaust emissions - but in two years ?? The standard downpipe is very constricted at at the flange end , both by welding and the bend . As said the OO racing pipe is a decent price , stainless and means you have the standard pipe should you need it...
Sorry to hear that , those allen screws must be very poor to snap like that ?
At least with simple steel ones like these the screws are easily replaced http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STEEL-CLIPONS-27MM-SES-MADE-PERFECT-FOR-CLASSICS-/270829279971?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3f0eaedae3
