Hi Beach... Your pipe arrived today. So we're going to build up and polish back the 2 joints as best we can.... What are you going to do with the exhaust clamp? Shouldn't that be polished s/s or polished ali? There's a little thingy preventing its removal, but I could get one of those cut too...

If your pan is largely going to sit on the frame tubes, aluminium will work just fine. It's easy to work and shape, and attaching some heavy rubber strips will help cushion it.

Easy answer....use aluminium.

To be honest Joel, it is too cramped for the clip-on bars and rearsets, unless the rider was small. My pal who owns the the Redline cafe wants to go back to a more standard set up over the winter, as it kills his back !
