Sorry man... I missed your reply! I'm in Valley Ridge - just west of COP off the TCH.

Motorcycle Shipping Options - Ontario to Alberta

That thought crossed my mind for about 1/2 of a second...just the thought of riding an XL 600 3000 kms makes my arse hurt! The cost of the same bike locally is more than double what it's being offered to me for, plus it holds some sentimental value (and I know the bike's history). That being...

Motorcycle Shipping Options - Ontario to Alberta

Hi all, I have an opportunity to pick up a 1983 Honda XL 600 from a friend in Mississauga but the catch is I have to get it shipped to Calgary. I'm in the process of investigating the potential cost to ship the bike in the hope that I can find something reasonable (i.e. less than the cost of...

    1980 SR250 - Gravel and Backroads Runner

Hi Burkejt1, No problem. This change with Photobucket is a real pain in the a$$... I removed the safety switches, the front gauge lights, replaced keyed ignition with push buttons under the seat and replaced the stock batter with a Shorai. Let me know if you have any questions!

    1981 Yamaha SR 250

Looks like you have a great starting point that isn't too haggered. I'm also working on an SR250 and have been having a lot of fun with it. Working on a single cylinder/ carburetor is nice particularly as it relates to jetting. What part of the world do you live in? I may still have my stock...

    1980 SR250 - Gravel and Backroads Runner

Thanks man. I got the tail light from some dude in town, off Kijiji. It wasn't ideal but did the job and will look better once I've painted it. I had to make some brackets to make it sit correctly and still be able to mount the license plate.

High, Low or No fender? Clearly having no fender isn't terribly practical, and the low fender is VERY close to the tire and doesn't provide much clearance for debris. That being said, I think I prefer the low or no options over the original high fender. Thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys. Trimming the seat height at the back was something that a buddy mentioned as well... makes sense! My original plan was to have the high front fender so never really thought to try it low, mounted on the brace. I will see if I can temporarily mount...

    1980 SR250 - Gravel and Backroads Runner

I spent a few quality hours in the garage working on the SR for fathers day before heading out with the family. I replaced the rear tube, installed the chain, shifter and side case and then rolled it outside for some much needed sunshine. I was able to take it for a short spin around my...

Very cool. I'm a fan of the old Yamaha 2 strokes. I had a '68 250 with a RT3 360 engine in it... my buddy has 2x '73s - a 125 and a 360. I'm hoping to get another, but need to get the SR complete first!

    1980 SR250 - Gravel and Backroads Runner

A few more updates to share... things are moving along now and won't be too long before I can take it for a test spin. I was able to get it started and jetted the idle circuit so it now starts and idles well! [emoji1303] I've mounted the front fender, rear tail light and license plate bracket...

    First Project - 1980 SR250

Hi Bubba1982, Congrats on the new project and best of luck with the build. Since you're dealing with a basket case and are bound to run into a few snags along the way (i.e. missing, broken, or worn parts) my advice is to focus your time and effort getting it together and running - and then...

    1980 SR250 - Gravel and Backroads Runner

Hi Zap. Your comments on the high loop are valid. I've been putting off the seat, but you're probably right... it's going to drive the look of the bike and will probably shape my decision. To complicate things, I have a couple of tail light options as well. I'm hoping to achieve a look...
