If it is running lean when you get on it, could be the accelerator pump or jets. Why not ditch the pods? These carbs are infamous for being difficult with them.

This might be a silly question, but I haven't gotten this far. Doesn't the tach cable go into the engine? How did you block that hole?

Did you ditch the tach, or does the one gauge have both coming into it? I have the same bike, and hate how huge the gauges are but would like to retain them. Also, your key placement is genius. Any pics you could show of the triple tree / gauge area would be helpful. Not saying I'll copy cat...

Ended up being the engine to carb boot was looser than it should have been. I think once it got warm it would get a little leak. And when I'd ease out the clutch, change in vacuum would pull it back good.

Save the carb cleaner for tough stuff. Use water /vinegar or pinesol for really greasy things. Carb cleaner is nice but a pain in the ass to dispose of.
