It's much much easier to get a good result using a female mold (i.e. take what you have and make another mold from that) Adding fiberglass on top of your form makes it very had to get a smooth outer surface. Plus you loose lines and details. When you're glassing down into the mold you have the...
I hear ya. I bought my XS650 5-6 years ago for 300 bucks. I got it running after I cleaned out the carbs. A few years before that I bought a CB350 for 200 bucks. My current bike, KZ400 I bought for 250 just a year ago. Now it seems anybody who's had an old Japanese bike moldering away in a...
Nice! HST was THE man. It's just weird 6 months ago a "Cafe Racer" listing without rear sets for more than 1000 bucks pissed me off. It's somehow gotten worse. I got into Japanese bikes because they were what I (or any guy for that matter) could afford. Since then I've grown to love them and I...
I'm getting really sick and tired of the Johnny Come Lately Cafe Racer movement. I'm getting so sick and tired of looking on Craigslist/eBay/whatever and seeing some dickhead that managed to attach a pair of 35.00 clubman bars and try to ask 2000 plus for a 300.00 bike. Hey get what you can out...
Like I said its not bad until about 45 minutes into a ride. I just saw they sell 5/8 slabs of gel padding on ebay for about 50 bucks. I might try that route.
What are you guys running for seat padding? I put 150 miles on the KZ today and riding on a single piece of 3/4 inch neoprene was like torture by the time I got back to the shop.
Thanks but I got the fuel lines hooked up and the damn tank leaks. There are pinholes under the old paint. The tank looked good inside but the back corner has a bad spot. I tried to seal them up with JB weld but to no avail. I'm going to have to use Red-Kote or take it to a radiator shop.
Haha right on. I made the seat myself. There's a little progress thread about it somewhere on here. I'm heading into the shop here in a few to fab up a tail light bracket.
I finally got a chance to get my tank and seat mounted this weekend. Getting an RD400 tank to fit a KZ400 was a little bit of a challenge but finally got the mounts worked out. A little bit of closed cell foam under the tank and it should fit like a glove and rubber mounted in the front back and...
I'm trying to get an RD400 tank onto my K400, Im having lots of trouble. Anybody have pics/descriptions of how you did it? I tried to replicate Yamaha tank mounts on plates to weld onto the backbone but there's just no room to get in and measure where to weld.
I was able to find a rubber supply house here in Columbus, they had tons of different options, I ended up getting a 3/4 inch thick 1" x 4 " piece for like 20 bucks. Maybe look and see if you have something like that around you?
