Howdy from Houston

A bit about me. As a kid/teenager I grew up loving to build and ride go-karts, mini bikes, and motorcycles. In my late teens I suffered an injury which caused me to lose most of the function in my left hand. I can no longer operate a clutch well with my left hand and my riding days mostly ended except for several scooter rentals while on vacation. But, my DESIRE to ride has never ended.

Today, I am in my 50's and want to use mid-life crisis as an excuse to get something to ride again just for fun around the neighborhood or maybe to the nearby store. I will not be riding over 45-50 mph too often, but would prefer to ride a real bike instead of a scooter. Given my inability to use a clutch lever with my left hand, I need of engine or bike with some form of an semi or automatic clutch/transmission.

I am familiar with the Rekluse clutch and haven't ruled it out as an option, but would prefer a straight from the factory solution for my anticpated project.

By the way, I have a non-running CL175 parts bike on the way but don't know if it will have a role in my project.

Thanks,

Rick (in Houston, TX)

If willing to go big, Honda's new GoldWings are available with dual clutch, and don't have the left-hand control. I believe they also had a 700cc commuter bike about ten years ago. My friends with the DCT GoldWings love them!

Thanks pidjones. I'm familiar with aIl of the older Hondamatics and newer Honda CVTs, but would prefer a single or twin cylinder engine that meets my requirements. At the moment, the various old school Hondamatics or a Rekluse clutch retrofit seem like they may be my best option but I'm open to all suggestions.

Welcome to the site! I have a CanAm Ryker 900 reverse trike that is fully automatic. Turn the gas and go! I'm really starting to love this thing as the power is instant very similar to an electric motorcycle. Honda did make a 450 twin Hondamatic and they pop up fairly often on FB marketplace and Craigslist.

The new GoldWings are true dual-clutch, not Hondamatic or CVT. They have seven speeds (including reverse) and auto up-and-down shift for you (or you can force manual paddle shift).
