I am replacing some needle bearings on a F650GS. the bushing are shot as well and need to be replaced. The bushings are $100 and have a 6 week lead time. I have a lathe and am considering making my own. What material should I use? Stressproof? 4140? mild steel and some case hardening using "Cherry Red"?

Are you referring to the “inner race” as I call them or pivot shaft sleeve? I can ask the metallurgist I work with. He recommended something to me for a similar application, but I can’t remember what it was now.

Yes the inner race. In this application it is removable and spans two bearings

That was my inclination. I also have some drops on hand. Thanks for the reply
