What laws do I follow?

Been Around the Block
This may be a somewhat dumb question, but I figured I'd rather asked then get a ticket. This summer I am going to Boston for the summer, and I am taking my CB350 project with me to finish and ride. While I am in Massachusetts do I need to follow the laws they have regarding things like turn signals and exhaust noise? I figured that for things like turn signals I don't need to since my bike is registered in Texas, but I wasn't so sure about things like exhaust noise. I mainly ask because my bike is loud as hell and I was wondering if I need to quiet it down a bit before I ride it around.

id think all the states laws would apply to your bike if stopped by the law..ie cited for loud exhaust..afterall you are operating in their state.. if you took any ticket to magistrate-it may get dismissed..but its usually up to the beat cop to issue citations...so good luck on your trip..lol

If I finish my build per current TN regulations... it is illegal as soon as I cross a state line going elsewhere. Turn signals are not required, muffler is not required, only need one mirror, no handlebar height limits... Our surrounding states follow the federal d.o.t. regs, i.e., 2 mirrors for post-1974, mufflers required, turn signals required on bikes originally equipped with them, handlebar restrictions...

Your call, but I'd build it to be legal in as many states as you think it will see. Mine will never see Florida again, the 15" rise bars would get me a nice fat ticket down there...

You are only required to meet the laws the vehicle is registered in.
That said the cops don't know the laws in all the states(some don't know the ones of the state they are in) and will write you a ticket for a loud pipe. Mostly because it is annoying and they can. Could you get it dropped? Sure. Still will not stop them for pulling you over

Thanks everyone! I'm alright with them pulling my over as long as I can get the ticket dropped. I figured I'd get pulled over either way. I am getting mufflers to quiet it down a bit, but only enough so I can park in the parking garage at work without everyone's alarms going off.
