1972/78 XS650 Heavy Metal Hardtail

Discovered the Pandemonium exhaust doesn’t fit pre-74 frames. I need to space my pedals out about two inches. Shimmed the back of the tank 3/4”, and all of my motor mounts are for a later frame. Live, learn, adapt.

Also stitched up the seat cover. It’s not my best work, but it’ll do for now. Images are flippin’ yo.

I'm surprised the exhaust wouldn't work with the 72 frame. The 72 frame I owned was a pain in the ass since the rest of the bike bike was a hodgepodge of different years. The swingarm spindle was my biggest worry. So now I can add exhaust to my memory banks. Like the switch idea!

I'm in exactly the same boat. In fact, I still half the other motor in pieces too. Never owned the later frame, just the 72. The wheels I got with the bins are the 16/19 Special mags, so later. It's possible the only 72 stuff I have is the frame. The Pandemonium right side header is bent to loop around the single down tube of the later frame. This having the wishbone makes the bend too short. I ordered parts and I'm going to see if I can alter the Pandemonium to loop around right downtube and between the two, then behind the left. I have seen flat track bikes done this way, so I am confident I can make it work.

Took very little alteration on the right pipe to make this fit. Like, I’m not sure I did anything more than cut and re-weld it. Hahaha. Anyway, it fits now.

maybe fix the cord on the makita grinder a few pics up

eric that looks awesome nice stance love it

Gotta have the 31 tooth, or get blown off the road. Over drive for 5th but under drive for first ‍♂️. I’ve been real interested in what it would take to change the gears in the transmission

I dig the whole look and stance.

Geesh Eric, nice job.

And that color.....looks great.

The big, shiny chrome disc was driving me nuts, so I pulled it for a stock cover. Hit the chrome clutch adjuster cover with the vapor hone to knock some of the shine off of it.
