"A Bird in the Hand" take 2. DR650 Deadtail Bobber, now with a sidecar

Txt sent. Think I've got a set of handlebars for ya that'll work. Looking great, though.

Looking awesome Hurco - like Irk I wish I could take your welding course too. I picked up a Lincoln Electric MIG welder and tank and trimmings for a couple hundred bucks last year, and - armed with 2 days of schooling - can't wait to get busy with the thing. Bike looks great and you look born to ride it

I spent a good chunk of time fabbing up a tracker style a-symmetric "number plate" style headlight that integrated a trail tech.
After a bunch of work, layout and drilling, it turned out amazing (ly horrible) lol
It will look good on the wall of shame if nothing else.

A buddy of mine parted out a 1983 kawasaki KLT200 (three wheeler) and I was able to grab this headlight in trade for a bit of welding work on his tire changer. I think it fits the bill well. The "ears" will be removed before final mounting also. It was also nice to get the bike outside the shop and see it as a roller without being next to all the other garage junk.

Looks pretty good. I was thinking about the pix you showed me earlier and was going to say that it would look better if you mount the lights to the back and have them shine out through holes in the plate. Oh well.

I agree, that would have looked far better, and I had thought to do that, but with the lights I had there wouldn't have been enough room behind the plate.

I was supposed to have a really productive evening in the garage, but all I managed to do was modify my hf stand to mount via the hollow rear axle. Oh well, still handy.

I assume when you say trimming the ears your going to cut off along the yellow lines? I think that will make it perfect.

Something along those lines, yes. though I may leave the bottom portion the full width and just trim the fork mounts off of the top portion. It's way easier to take more if I decide i want to than it is to add more back ;)

Damn this is lookin FAH.
(Fine as hell). I’m lovin how narrow it looks from the front

Kids these days with their new age jibber jabber...

Thanks man! It will really help with all the rural north central Ohio lane splitting that I do.

Haha jibber jabber ....I just made that up. Trying to start a new thing. And yes that was so true. Your riding area and lane splitting go hand and hand.

Dude I love this bike - yours and Irk’s and all the other choppers here make me want to build one so bad. They have a special place in the pantheon of cool - my Zappa stache, courtesy of Covid19, is shaping up so I feel like I’m halfway there now. Grow the Furs and The Chopper Will Come

I like that idea, don't trim too much, I dig the width below the light.

I just followed the natural lines but I'd do what Levi said, take the ears then see how it looks etc. and trim till it's right. I do like the width at the bottom but how it trims and what the edge will look like may be fun. At least if it's abs you can smooth it with acetone after trimming and sanding.

Well, I for one like it, but I am into the 'brutalist' style

I like your first headlight set up too - maybe if you could disguise the reg/rec a bit with a mesh air filter...

I think that would look rad
