Where's the pumper carb?
Ummmm about that. Was saving it for a later post, but since your eagle eye caught it.....

Basically the cr125m tank that I'm dead set on running yet not hacking up will not clear the top of the fcr carb due to petcock interference. I decided to give a mikuni vm38 a try. A couple klr650 guys have used it with good success, so I'm gonna try it. If it sucks, I'll find another cr125m tank and move the petcock and run the fcr.

Dude this looks wicked. Really enjoying watching it shape up. Unrelated question - helmet, top shelf, 5th from left. I need to know more about that bad boy.

I'll get some pictures. It's just an old red metal flake 3/4 lid. The liner is in pretty rough shape. I wanna have it re done, but I know with as old as it is, it offers little real protection

Well gentlemen , I'm afraid I really screwed the pooch on this build. I had originally chosen the dr650 power plant because of it torquey yet well mannered power curve. Then I went and added these speed holes to the exhaust guard. With the weight savings translated into horsepower I'm afraid the front wheel will never be on the ground and I will burn through back tires faster than a boosted Hayabusa.

You'll be ok because it's a dead tail. Yup, everybody knows that you have to have rear suspension to get a bike to wheelie, it's just physics, man, just physics! Burn rubber, sure, but wheelie, never... You're saving lots of weight by having that engine casing empty, too. W/ no crank, rod, piston, valves, and all that other useless weight in there. It'll be howler for sure!

Ha yep, I just didn't wanna drill a hole on an arch. I sat there last night and bet myself a dollar that you'd say something about the spacing lol. Im rich now.

Bolts in. Pegs mounted. Jump test by my 265lb self complete. I think they'll do.

I'll likely find something different. Anything that takes a 3/8 bolt or 10mm bolt will work. But, "Bird in the Hand".... these were in my garage lol

Well, I couldn't let this go. I literally built this bike around this engine/ carb combo. But im also stubborn and refuse to cut and re locate the petcock on the near mint cr125m tank. So I did the hard route and made up a petcock adapter. I bought a petcock with the proper 16mm nut. The way these are designed means that once they are assembled, they don't come apart without destroying the petcock itself. They have a steel spring ring that expands into two concurrent grooves, one in the i.d. of the nut, and the o.d. of the petcock body.

Here's a few pictures to show how little clearance there is to work with.

So I basically needed to kick the outlet over to the left, with about .680" total distance from the outlet to the top of the carb. I used the old south bend lathe and 4 jaw chuck to turn a round piece into a cube, then whittle it down to the shapes I needed from there.

I was very happy when the nut snap ring went together properly, as once it's on, the only way to get it off would be to destroy the piece I had just made. I also bored it to utilize the in tank filter that came with the petcock.

And it fits. Clearance is clearance right?

And I have this petcock on the way, which will thread into the 1/8 not hole that I put in the manifold

Funny how something as simple as a petcock has been one of the bigger challenges on this build so far.
