Z650b light customisation

Hi all,

I just joined this group and I am restoring/lightly modifying my 1978 kz650b (imported to uk). I am largely keeping it the same but painting the engine, changing the indicators, head lamp, bars etc to my taste.... all reversible. The thing I am really undecided about is the rear, I don’t really want to chop the frame for a different seat/rear as then it can never be put back to original if needed, however I do want a new seat, of course I can have the original retrimmed which is an option. The part I don’t like is the rear mudguard/fender which will be removed, then I am left with the tail plastic section behind the bike and some people leave it that way but I’m still not sure.... I’m really looking for other ideas on the bike without frame modifications, I am fine buying new seats, rear mudguards etc to get the look.... any ideas??

Try the other way 'round with mudguard and without the seat cowl. Just to see and give ideas.

I took a few pics last night with different mock ups. I’m going to stick with the cowl and no mudguard, but a tail tidy for the rear number plate... should look ok

Fine for show, but engine, carbs, electronics will be a mess the first time ridden on wet streets without inner mud guard.

Yeah, I will put the inner mudguard back on which will protect the engine etc. Got to admit I’m a fair weather rider too....!
