Oh yeah, the little trx did a good job and has an auto clutch so it isn't overwhelming to her. 2 wheels won't work as she can barely balance a bicycle. After another trip or 2 I'll be looking for a 250-400 automatic quad for her. But for starting the trx does the job. The little XL just isn't big enough for an adult to do much on. But it'll wheelie whenever you want.

Quad bike - major want.
Find one with suspension. That and no differential are probably the biggest downfall to this one. It likes to push the front end, and it's not a comfortable ride. Next time out I'll try lower tire pressure, and added foam overgrips. It'll never be as smooth as something with suspension, but I can try to make it a little better for the wife.

Yeah, I think they are at about 20 psi right now, trying to make it turn better in the backyard. I'm new to the ATV thing and having single digit PSI seems weird.

bought a pair of cheap ebay "mufflers" for the Duc and had to fabricate mid pipes out of mandrel bent stainless. What a PIA that stuff is to weld for those of us that lack welding skills.

One side done and now for the other side when I get more Argon for the TIG welder. OEM mid pipes use a double slip pipe arrangement of 1.0mm stainless which just vanishes when you try to weld it. The rest of that mid pipe is 2" stainless which I ploished after cutting and welding it.

I liked the shape of the mufflers, but in retrospect I should have gone with straight pipes I think. I'll see if they grow on me.

A lot of folks run the wrong psi on these old bikes. With the 2.5-5 psi they call for they ride much better.

Yeah. I've got a 0-15psi tire gauge coming tomorrow. So they will get set properly. It'll only have to work for her for a ride or 2 as I just picked up a recon 250. Same setup with the autoclutch, but it has suspension and front disk brakes. It'll be a big improvement once I go through it.

Cool. Recons are good bikes too. Suspension will make a big comfort difference and the disks will actually stop it

Yeah. It needs some work, but any sub $500 atv will. Suspension bushings will be done, I think the front master either needs bleeding or attention, starter is bad, someone put a pipe on it with no spark arrestor, rear fenders are pretty bad and it's missing the seat. But I'll have that all fixed in a few weeks.

Mid Ohio vintage days was supposed to be this weekend, but it got postponed (date tbd). The AMA had a small swap meet and bike night at its headquarters in Pickerington this evening. Picked up this Magura hydraulic clutch kit and this kick stand of unknown origin for $10 for both. The kick stand will get cut down for use on the bobberer and I may play with the clutch kit on the xr400. Either way, it made it worth the 3.5 hour round trip on the old beamer.

Nice buy. I was bummed AMA VD was not on. "maybe next year" is going to be a famous slogan soon.

we were bummed too. At the bike night the AMA president made a few announcements, one of which was his dismay of the event being postponed and hoping it doesn't end up cancelled but just happens this fall. If it were up to the AMA, they would've gone forward with it, but it was a mandate by Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the Gov., not the AMA itself.
