"RATTLE CAN" BLING! ...everything is here!

Thanks Maritime, it’s not bad but i think i’ll flatten it and compound to a shine.

I am planning to do a two color paint job on my fuel tank, with a lighter color being the primary color, and black on the center of the tank.

I'll paint the whole tank in the light color first, but I am then wondering how long I should wait to mask for the second color and if I should put in one coat of 2k clear first before masking as I've seen mentioned?

Hmm, youd certainly want the base fully cured over days.

is there any issue applying colour over clearcoat, i’ve no idea!

Damp day here in the uk, perfect to wet sand Scruffy’s tank !

cautious not to sand through the paint i have not fully sanded out the orangepeel :

going to give it a couple of days to cure fully then apply decals and 2k later in the week

No need to compound to a shine before clearing, the clear will totally bring back the shine. Make sure all the compound product is off the surface before clearing.

When you clean it with soap and water you want to watch what happens to the water as it flows off the surface. It should flow clean and in sheets, if you have any areas that the water wants to go around you're not quite clean yet.

This. You may want to wipe with acetone first depending on what the paint is to remove rhe compoud etc but if you follow Justin's rule above you'll be good to go. I like simple green as the soap

Thanks everyone.

i was careful to compound and not wax so as not to contaminate the surface

will give it a good wash and check water flow

I got a sag in a side cover I was painting. Sanded it back with 1500 wet on a 3M sanding block and then gave it the recommended amount of covering coats discussed at the beginning of this thread, came out good. I'd never tried sanding out sags or orange peel before so didn't know what to expect.

we're getting the same, it's hard to breath outside right now. humidity is at 99% 28C but feels like 38C

I lived in Hong Kong years ago, worked on their bamboo scaffolding and roofs. There the humidity was so bad it was like steam.

I did mine tonight and was very pleased with that dupli color perfect match .... until it started to spit out. It was going on VERY nicely. You could tell it's a good quality paint .... then the damn can started spitting droplets out! Wtf! It wasnt empty and I held it upright. What a piss off

That sucks. Looks good besides the drops though. I saw a few YouTube videos where the painter regularly wiped the nozzle on a rag to avoid this. Personally I’ve only had problems when using custom filled cans and not holding the can upright, but I might try the wipe thing next time.
